I think everyone was an EDCer before they heard the term, unless they are age 10 or so. Everyone tends to carry *something* with them all the time, even if that's just a key ring or pocket change. :)

Welcome to the forums, EDCNoob. What are you going to do about that handle in a couple of years when you are an EDC expert? ;)

What a lovely post! Very informative! Thank you for giving me a bit of insight into the forum etc.

I was just thinking about something that you said, regarding gaming. Maybe having played RPGs for so long contributes to that mindset of "you never know!" For example, playing Diablo (and WoW) and saving gear for alts or friends because "you never know" if something could come in handy, or you may need an extra bit of resistence gear or exp gear or magic find etc. Although I know that my preparedness attitude surfaced long before then (my father had a bag with EVERYTHING in it. I remember being at the airport and needing some tape and he pulled some rope and duct tape out of his bag. It happened to be just what I needed! I believe that this influenced me growing up.

I also (okay, I wouldn't admit this to most people but seeing as you're all as crazy as I am, I am sure many can relate!) have this weird phobia about being in a plane crash, ending up on a deserted island and then having to fend for myself. I then think "if I have these few bits on me, it would make my survival that much easier!"

I'm glad to have found a group of people that understand this way of thinking! Quite comforting to know that I'm not alone!

    I'm a sad puppy now!

Good question. I don't think I'll ever stop being a noob. I'm a "noob" IRL. And, there's always someone that knows more than me and I will always be learning!

I won't lie...I have a distinct in bags! If only Michael Kors did an EDC!

Once I get my gear, I shall share the contents of my EDC and give you insight into the female mind. Organized chaos I would call it!

Welcome to the forum Little girl from Sweden!
This tread seems quite the attention getter! So I was just wondering:
Are you really a little girl from Sweden, or are you an old man from Philly fooling everyone round these parts?

I can totally relate to that, being a former WoW-Warlord myself (back in 2005) and being on forced cold turkey since 2010. :p

In earnest, I even learned a craft before going to university, joined to army for a year to get heavy shooting practice and first aid / survival training, etc. etc. I totally hate to rely on other people most of them being idiots (somebody had to say it) and try to pick up as many abilities as possible during my lifetime to be prepared for any "Fallout" scenario including zombies.

Nowadays everyone around relies on me, being the idiot who's prepared ("You don't perchance happen to have a knife on you that I could borrow pretty please?" - "What size?!!")

    Hello and welcome EDCNoob! :)

haha that made me laugh. It's just like when playing a game online and you admit that you're female...everything changes!

I remember when I first started playing WoW, on the first day I made a friend whilst levelling. I was talking to them and I really enjoyed their company. I "noobily" assumed that because they were playing a female avatar, that they were...female! When I found out it was a guy in Denmark, I almost felt...I dunno, lied to! I was speaking to him as if I was speaking to a fellow female! I quickly learned that it wasn't the case and began to assume that everyone online was male unless proved otherwise.

So yes, I am female. And as for little, I'm 5 feet tall. So, it's all relative, but in most parts, yeah, that's little!

OMG! When you mentioned saying "learned a craft" I started thinking how that's how I can view everything that I do now. So my workout regimin would be like getting exp so that I could level up to put talent points in stamina or dexterity type skills...and learning first aid would be like training first aid in WoW! (I took an emergency first aid course years ago, I should definitely do a refresher.)

Okay.. I think I just weirded myself out by all that geekdom.
