A pic I have of some of mine. I carry a 16" ASP in my Maxped Jumbo, and a 26" SS ASP in the truck.

A homemade billy club, I saw a billy in the previous photo, so I figured it counts. The Shillelagh is too cool to be left out. I used to have a couple telescopic batons but I gave them to friends as gifts.

Nah. Too heavy, not enough reach, and unlikely I'd need them.

If You're on a budget, nothin beats a good old axe handle. You can always cut it down to fit your size requirments. :lolhammer:

That's true, especially a Pickaxe handle. I held one in a hardware store once, was amazed by the weight. Even cutting it down, it'd still be heavy.

Then comes the problem of how to carry an axe handle, low profile if possible. Anything under 21in might as well be a large knife.

That's why I like the Rural King 1" thick hickory cane for like $8. Low profile, but very dangerous if need be. :D

I think I recall reading that somewhere, if I remember correctly it also said they were used by Police officers, perhaps in one of those locations..Wikipedia, here I come.

I think (and at this point this is coming from fairly shakey sources) that they where used by some speciallist officers in britain especially during the 70's, such as the SPG (Special Patrol Group, an public order unit who gained a reputation for violence), and possibly also other units during public order scenarios, aka riot control, and simmilar. they may have been issued, but as baseball bats where found in the possession of the SPG at one point, it is also entierly possible they where "personally aquired".

I don't have any batons but here are a few impact weapons I have made.
The Slung shots are each made from a single 6 metre length of 5mm cord with a 3oz weight in the end, I deliberately use a granny knot cobra stitch to give a spiral effect for better grip. They are a bit scruffy as I need to practice more. The leather sap is around 6oz in weight and was made for a friend in the security business, the other stuff is various sizes, weights and styles of Dae Bong and Yarawa plus two Escrima sticks of my own design. http://img682.imageshack.us/g/dscn07630056.jpg/
