Hey, student from Germany here. I am currently looking for a small pocket knife which has a ~2 inch/5cm blade length so it's not that agressive looking.
Sadly knife laws in Germany are very strict, which means that the knife is not allowed to be opened and locked with one hand.
That means I must choose between a two hand opening blade that can lock or a one hand slipjoint. I don't care that much about it if the rest is good... Can you guys recommend something? I'm am looking to spend around 40 Euros, if that's possible. I do already own a SAK, im searching for something more simple with just blade/or maybe one other tool. I do own the Kershaw shuffle too, awesome knife with bottle opener and screwdriver built in, but sadly illegal..
Could you guys help me out?
    Greetings from Germany!

I think your budget is going to hold you back from some really excellent options like the Benchmade Proper ($100 USD). Or the Fallkniven TK4 ($140). You might be able to get a Case Sodbuster in your price range which is a budget classic. Or an Opinel for $10.

I don't own one, but the kershaw pub looks interesting (doesn't lock) and within budget I'd guess. Spyderco cliptool might scrape under budget - one hand opening but doesn't lock.

I have been surprisingly happy with my leatherman Skeletool kbx. It is advertised as one hand open, but it takes some practice. So if a copper checks your knife for any reason, it won't be easy for them, but you'll get the hang of it. (I actually added a thumb stud to mine to assist with one-hand open.) Size wise, I'm not sure of the length, but it's not much more than 2" blade. The minimal design of the knife makes it seem small overall, but the blade is a very practical length. Other than one hand open, pocket clip and carry are important to me, and this knife is great in those areas. This knife def is good and would work for you.

I find that German law so bizarre, why don't they like a lock on a one hand opening knife but allow you to have it on a two handed one??

The UK is no better, no lock on both styles of penknife but we are allowed 3 inches. Lol

German laws are crazy! You can carry a fixed knife up to 12cm or two hand opend locked in any lenghth, with no problems, but if you carry a Spyderco Ladybug or something like this, you carry a illegal weapon! It is crazy and senseless!

It is, even the böker DW-2 is illegal, which is crazy. I don't know if the police would care, but I don't wanna find out...

Be aware that you need fingernails made of cast iron to get it open. IMHO the backspring is much too tight.

My one is ok, the slipjoint is strong but manageable.

Speaking of Boker, you might want to consider the techtool series. I quite like mine.

That is madness,.....I never knew that you could carry a small fixed blade instead, that makes no sense if they were thinking of the ease of one handed opening/stabbing aspect. That's the only thing I could think of as to why they come up with the two handed vs one hand opening aspect.

    Hi!
I had the same struggle when moved to Germany. Ridiculous that I can't carry my beloved ZDP Dragonfly 2.
Now I carry a Spyderco Pingo. Very useful blade shape, nice and thin behind the edge and with a zip tie it's one hand opening.
I would post a picture but I don't have a clue yet how to do it.. :D

If you want another one to give you some variety, take a look at the Spyderco SpyDK. Same concept in terms of slip joint as the Pingo; I think maybe same steel. But a MUCH more pointy tip! I have both. I like variety in my rotation!

And of course you also have the whole wide universe of traditional slip joint knives... Germany is as far as I know, the ancestral home of the sod buster type of knife and Boker amongst others do make such things!

    L'chaim!
