Used a few parts from my Gen 1 Surge and tried them out on the 2nd gen I got a couple years back. In the last pic you can see where the lock does not engage. The old blade exchanger is on the left and is a bit more rounded at the bottom, where as the new blade exchanger is more flat. If I flatten it a little with my Dremel, I'm sure it will lock. woo! That's fantastic. I always think the saw/file interchangeable a bit awkward. I would prefer a file and a saw to be on the tool at the same time. Like file and saw usually a reasonable sequence. Having them intetchangable makes things a bit inconvenience.
Having the blade not locking may actually be an advantage,....in the UK we can only legally EDC a sub 3" non locking blade so a 'normal' Surge would be off limits to many.
You're right. I trimmed the curved section, of the sliding part, chamfered the pivot and now it locks up tight.
