Oh, so my guests will have the basics. I have plenty of other similar items for myself. :)

You are welcome at my house anytime, Catherine! Re trying out leatherwork: I took a class at a Tandy store. They had plenty of tools to borrow for the class. I wanted to make something specific, a wallet, but found I really liked thinking about how to make things, how the pieces go together, so I continued with it and bought some tools of my own. To begin you could buy some scrap leather and needles and thread. That wouldn't cost you much. You can cut the leather with a sheetrock knife plus improvise other tools, like a wooden dowel for burnishing, old fork for making the sewing holes. There are lots of videos on youtube about how to do each step. I recommend Ian Atkinson's videos.

Find a simple project you want to do, and just buy the tools for that project (a little at a time). Good Luck.....

Just as no piano can make a maestro great, there are no tools that can magically make you good at leatherwork.

Nothing but practice, practice, practice. =)

I still do the majority of my work with a sharp blade and (now) steady hands, and looking back, most of my first attempts were absolute :censored:. Give it a shot!

    I don't think I posted this yet.

Sheath I just finished for a buddy (he makes the handles).

Luck of the design - the snap strap anchor doubles as a belt loop! =D

And recently had a breakthrough with kydex and eyelets.

Very happy with this one (I know, not leather related, but I figured you'd enjoy).

Got great definition with my press, as the customer wanted to replicate the original sheath, that they broke.

Also made two minimalist card wallets. One has a spot for a few folded bills as well. Both have two card slots both hold 5-6 cards.

New leather sheath for a buck 112 and a small sheath for a boker gnome. The gnome goes in my fifth pocket but the stock sheath moved around too much; decided to make a new one that was shorter and more square

Made a blue horween snap-flat travel valet for my dad's birthday.

Kydex reinforced sides all around! =)

VERY happy with the results; kinda winged it lol

That looks really nice. How long have you been making leather goods, it appears as if it has been a long time!

Finished my first leather flashlight belt holster last night. Looks black but it's supposed to be a really dark brown. Finishing oil made it really dark. Fit is pretty snug and can accommodate a 2" belt.

Made a pen case last night. Pairs nicely with the flashlight holster I did from last week.
