I own a couple of Rountree & Yorke leather jackets, and so far I've been very pleased with them. With winter on the way, if been thinking about picking up another, maybe a "Cafe racer" type... Anyone have any preferences with leather jackets ?
After reading your post I tried on my old leather jacket. HOLY COW if I gained one more ounce I would not be able to zip that thing up!!
Man, I love leather coats. I must have more than a dozen: sports coats, motorcycle jackets, cafe racers, bomber jackets, car coats, trench coats - the whole gamut in cowhide, lambskin, goatskin. But my favorite of all was a lambskin walking coat with broad lapels by Cortefiel of Spain. Unfortunately, I outgrew it 40 years ago. Still miss that coat.
Lamb skin holds up pretty well. Not really a choice for rough wear as you can tear the surface layer of the leather if you get it caught on something sharp. Cow's leather just generally scratches. But the lamb is as soft as butter. Don't believe that you can get cow's leather that soft no matter how it's treated.
Lambskin three-button sports coat style. VERY Soft. Lambskin modern cut jacket. No outside pockets. Two slit pockets at the at each side. Waist length. VERY Soft. Modern cut bomber jacket. Premium cowhide (Full-grain leather) 1950s-era bomber jacket inherited from my late father whom was actually a naval aviator (gold wings) early in his career. 3/4-length "car coat" lined with cashmere. Very heavy and quite warm. Full-grain leather. My preference is to NOT wear leather in the really cold temps. Leather stiffens as it gets cold. It's dead animal skin! My preference is the 1st one on my list. Underneath a 3/4-length cashmere overcoat, with oversized silk scarf, & calfskin gloves.
Love leather too, I have decent collection of jackets. My favorite is a Vansons 2pc motorcycle suit (I ride). Love how leather molds to your body over time. The MC suits make a decent Halloween costume as well
Got to love a classic. Here's mine. And for those that notice that sort of thing, it is a brown coat. A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul. I guess that makes me just a giant Peter.
Same here, I completely forgot I owned a venerable A-2 Bomber jacket until few months ago when cleaning my second closet...since then we've been inseparable. What a classic and what a style! ;-) This is one of the legendary uniform pieces US Army made pretty much perfect. Right up there with M-65 parka and jacket, M-51 & M-65 cold weather pants, Vietnam era OD-107 jungle fatigues and utility pants, first sets of cotton ripstop BDUs etc. Enjoy it brother!
I have a more fashion-orientated leather jacket - a Superdry 'Brad' which - apart from a new zip being put in a couple of years back - has been going strong since 2008. I practically will Autumn on each year so I can wear it. Coupled with a wool Carhartt cardigan underneath and it keeps the chill out very well.
Yes, the A2 will always be a classic. I have the same style in a more modern, Roundtree & Yorke. Got it on sale at Dillard's years ago. Love the vintage look. I've been surfing the web for another jacket, and I'm still looking
I have two of the A2's; one dark leather with the pile lining and collar and one that's "aged" but I think it's just dark tan nubuck.
I'm a big leather jacket fan, have about ten right now and 4 faux leather jackets. I've got three Marc New York by Andrew Marc jackets (1 A2 bomber, 2 classic blousons), 3 Members Only jackets, 1 Roundtree & York nubuck leather jacket (MA-1 flight jacket style), a leather Nebraska Cornhuskers jacket, a leather Pittsburgh Steelers jacket, a brown buffalo leather double rider jacket, and the rest are faux leather, including a Michael Kors.
It took me three heavy treatments with Mink Oil, but I got a cowhide jacket to be as soft as lambskin. I actually thought I overdid it because I think its too soft now.
My Andrew Marc A-2 Bomber My Members Only MA-1 Style Flight Jacket. The modern MA-1 style flight jackets have the distinctive slanted flap pockets. My Roundree & Yorke MA-1 Style Flight Jacket in nubuck leather. Occasionally, women will ask to touch this jacket. The classic Members Only Iconic Cafe Racer jacket (lambskin). This style still holds up well and I get people asking me all the time where I got it or someone asks to buy it from me.
Nice Okay, so, I found a vintage G1 on the E sales place, and went for it. not quite what I was looking for, but it's a classic.
That's the Navy G-1 with the fur collar yes? That's actually trendy this fall/winter. Very similar to the A-2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-1_military_flight_jacket
