Anyone know of a quality backpack larger than a TAD EDC Lightspeed that might be Available in the color foliage or gray ??? I've checked out the 5.11 72 re reviews, but it didn't seem to fair that well. Any suggestions ??? Thanks.
Looks like the TAD EDC Litespeed has 1350 ci. How about the Kelty MAP 3500, which has 2300 ci. and comes in Foliage Green, Ocean Gray, and several other colors? This is a very similar pack to the venerable Kelty Redwing. There's a fairly extensive review of the MAP 3500 versus the Max Condor on this Forum: type in "Kelty MAP 3500 Review" and it should come up ... It's a couple of years old, but the content is pretty fresh. (This review motivated me to buy a MAP 3500: I now have three [black, gray, and coyote brown] plus bought each of my sons one. It's a great pack, but you have to see if it has the features you want.)
There are a lot of quality packs in foliage that are larger than the TAD EDC - the question is, how much larger are you looking for? Something the same size as the 5.11 72 rush? Which is about 3,000 cubic inches, according to the 5.11 website.
Camelbak HAWG MilTac is 1400cc and comes in foliage. I have one and love it. I took out the reseviour since I never used it. The foliage is kinda foliage/grey anyway and darn near perfect in MHO.
Just about every assault pack can be found in foliage - if you can narrow down what size you want, it would help. Something larger, in the 3,000 cu size? Something similar to the TAD EDC? The Camelbak HAWG, like MCPOWoller recommended, is a great multi-purpose day pack.
Sorry, should have been more specific. I would like one larger than the TAD mentioned, but compact enough to be airline carryon friendly. Perhaps a bag that could carry a weeks worth of clothes (not camping). Thanks for all your suggestions.
If you are using it for airline travel, I think the Kelty MAP, as previously mentioned, is definitely worth checking out. It holds a ton of clothes in it, and the main compartment zips all the way, making it easy to pack clothes in it like a suitcase. The ocean gray color is really cool.
I've used my Mystery Ranch 3DAP for airline travel and it works PERFECTLY. I've loaded it up with 5 days +/- of clothes for vacations and business and had room for shoes and toiletries. It fits in the airplane overhead like it was made for it and it will definitely fit in an airline sizer. The Futura harness is very comfortable even with 30 ish pounds on the shoulders. You could easily get much more with the belt upgrade. I made my own docking system using the compression straps on the 3DAP, some ITW molle buckles, and a Red Rock Rover. It's worked great for undocking the little pack when the 3DAP goes in the overhead so I still have an E&E sized pack in my lap.
Agreeed on the various MR trizips. I just ordered a Vertx Gamut Plus too though. The Arcteryx Khard 30 would fit (I think) too.
With the various Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales going on right now, the Khard 30 can be found 20% off at various places around the web. And they come in Wolf Grey..
I think Camelbak has some good options. I was recently in the market for a new pack and liked the offereings from them, I did end up with a Goruck pack though.
Can't agree more. I own one in foliage and it's by far my favourite bag for 2-3 days hike or weekend in the cottage. It doesn't have the too tactical look but it does not look like a sport bag to go at the gym. It's very well built, quite light and has nice fleeced pouch pour glasses or fragile stuff.
This is my back up for more stowage when my venerable Blackhawk three day is overstuffed. MAP are encountered in quite a few tac team settings. I like mine a bunch.
You should check the camelback BFM, it does fit the overhead bin but fitting it under the seat might be a stretch. Pretty happy with mine in foliage green Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
