The Maxpedition Falcon II main compartment rear top has a little hanging loop and a bit of velcro. I presume this was meant to afix a hydration pack here... but is there a laptop sleeve which would particularly fit here creating a hanging sleeve, well protecting the laptop? My laptop is 13.25 x 9.15 x 0.79 inches. I could jerry a slipcase like https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71YbG8k8rxL._SL1100_.jpg roping the little loop and the handle together and use sticky backed velcro... but something made for here would be (much) better.
I came up with the most insane plan... this is going to be good. Get a Greyman Tactical panel made for the Rush 12, it's 9.25x17 , get a Tom Bihn cache, it has vertical 1" webbings, use Granite Gear Molle Converters to create horizontal MOLLE out of it. This will go between the back of the backpack and the panel, the front of the panel then can be used to add 1" velcro ties to hang more stuff from it. I will also take a dense foam kneeling pad and carve out an U shape to surround my eReader and sticky back velcro it to the big front pouch and slide a grid it in front of it to hold all my cabling and stuff. I wish one of the grid it panels with a pocket on the back were the right orientation but that doesn't seem to exist. At the end I won't need add anything to the outside of the backpack. The end result is a backpack holding everything I need in so small a size, it would even pass the Ryanair sizer...
I did a simpler thing and got a Cargo Works 15" MacBook Pro EDC Backpack , the backpack straps are removable , now it's a laptop sleeve, fits like a glove. Could use more bottom padding but since it's a bit less tall than the F II, this can be remedied: I folded a brief into a tiny ikea packing cube and there, now it has extra bottom badding and some emergency clothing (I bet I could also fit a pair of light socks in there too).
