The finished knot looks great, especially for the first time. A lot of your problem may have been the type of cord, some of them refuse to co operate and stay put!

Either my mind is "clouded" or there aren't any good tutorials for the Snake knot. That was the knot that I intended initially, but upon seeing that I can't understand exactly how to do it I abandoned the fight and made this. It's a satisfying substitute, as far as I'm concerned.I watched all the videos for the Snake knot and couldn't understand. Not to mention the fact that this is the only knot I know that needs to be partially untied to make it.

I've been putting diamond knots in all my zipper pulls. Knot fever, getting bad. Seeing loose line is getting under my skin, like Irish pennants on clothing drives me crazy, along with unpressed trousers and untucked shirts (Thanks USMC for that.)
I'll post pics when I get back home, just wanted to set a marker in forum. Gotta get started on making a sleeve for gas station paper coffee cups.

I've been bitten by the lanyard bug and have been really enjoying it. I've made several two color lanyards and keychains but was wondering if there were any three color options out there? My kids school colors are red/white/black and I would like to make something using all three.

    TIA

    Dave

for three colors, do a square sinnet but add a third color. So it ends up being 6 cords instead of 4. I have done one or two like that and they look alright. A bit thicker but still a nice looking keychain.

I expect you have seen this http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-tie-a-monkey_s-fist/ it makes tying a monkey fist way easier but when you come to tighten it up use a flattened hardwood fid something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/Handcrafted-Ziricote-Wood-Fid---Rope-making-Tool_W0QQitemZ380177329905QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20091113?IMSfp=TL091113179005r14104 but flatten the end on some fine sandpaper so it slides under the cord easily, then trap the cord between it and your thumb to tighten.

    Four strand sinnet.
Insteed of using two cords and fold both use three cords, two shorter and one longer and only fold the longest. There will be two more ends but either put them inside the sinnet or melt them as all other ends.

Knots that uses three or more different cords

I've been really going nuts here with making lanyards, keychains and zipper pulls. Plan on making them for Christmas presents. So I ordered the Jumbo Perma Lok needle thinking it would help with some of the knotting & weaving. Just cannot seem to get the 550 to thread into the needle. Anyone use one ofthese needle that can shed some light?

    TIA,

    Dave :brickwall:

Cut the end of the cord at a 45 degree angle, melt it just a bit, then screw the needle onto the cord, and the threads of the needle will bite and hold the cord from there.

Thanks for the quick reply Stormdrane. I have tried that and still cannot get it to thread into the needle. Am starting to think that the type III 550 is to thick.

Are you sure its a jumbo their are different size needles
here's a video on attaching a needle Link
You also might try melting the end with a lighter wait a couple of seconds and roll it between your fingers to form a cone. but I have to warn you it will be HOT
