I really wouldn't want to trust just one blade, which is why I carry multiple.

Given that I have the choice to take anything into the wilderness specifically for survival, probably a Vic Farmer and a Swamp Rat Wakizashi, neither of which I own.
But if we're assuming instantaneous survival, I'd probably have my HI Kutunje on me with a Vic Cadet.

EDC carry is limited to any number of single-bladed knives, a Gerber Artifact, and a Vic Cadet.

I would bet my life on either my Busse SAR4 or Busse Skinny ASH...

I dont think I'd bet my life on a folder...

For a folder, probably my heftiest is my original Spyderco Manix.

I think a fixed blade is more reliable than a folder, but I don't have any high quality FBs.

If I were planning on being stranded on a desert island I'd buy a large Bark River or maybe a Fairbain <?> type blade.

The most likely survival situation I'd find myself in would be out in the woods in the southeast U.S. If I'm out there so is my Kabar Heavy Bowie. At around $50 it is very capable and it has survived the thrashing I have already given it. If its a BOB type situation I have a variety of choices packed, just in case.

For a folder, I would take my SAK XLT. I t does everything well.

For a FB, it would be difficult for me to come up with something better than my Busse Battle Mistress.

Combine the two, you can just about accomplish anything.

fixed - Gerber LMF II (It's the roughest one I own)
folder - probably a well stocked Victorinox. They haven't let me down, yet.
