    Re: US made knives?

Bark River knives are also made in the USA.

I didn't know that about Kershaw but it doesn't surprise me considering all of the other major players have China made knives.

Yes they have, but you can still find their knives, even NIB, if you look around; I have a source for NIB US-made Schrade Old Timers, actually. :) See here for the buy thread. :)

Currently, about 80-85% of Kershaws are made in the US. They are planning to move up to 90%+ to the US in the next year. Any of their decent to excellent models are made in the US. At least one model is made in Japan - the Lahar. It uses VG-10 Japanese steel and made in Seki City. Great hard-use knife by the way.

I'm pretty sure all of the Zero Tolerances are US made. I love me my 300!

I thought only the Benchmade red box line has knives manufactured overseas? I was under the impression their blue box and up lines are all US made.

I think at least one or two of the red class knives are made in the US, while one or two of the blue class are made overseas. Pretty sure all Black and Gold class are US made, though.

It appears that most of you have misunderstood the original post. The poster is not just looking for a US made knife, but a company that ONLY produces knives in the US.

If the knife says "Made in the U.S.A." does that also mean ALL parts are U.S.A.-made? The steel? Handle? Bushings?
Or is a mfg. forced to say "Assembled in the U.S.A." if even one part is not U.S.A.-made?

The real company has, that's true. But Taylor Cutlery bought the Schrade name, and is using it on cheaply made knives from foreign countries.

    Re: US made knives?

Interesting thing about Kershaw is that they are owned by a Japanese company, making probably most of their knives in the US, but also in China, Japan and who knows where else.

Buck has made some hay about moving some production back to the US. What kind of irks me about this is that some of their Chines made knives are actually nicer than their US made counterparts, such as the slipjoint lines. I guess some folks are simply willing to pay more for a "Made In USA" stamp, even if it doesn't translate into a better product. Few manufacturers like Case remain. Increasingly, US-only manufacturers are boutique knife manufacturers producing knives for a relatively small market.

I can't imagine that, in this day and age, it's even possible to assemble a knife that doesn't have some part made in a different country.
