Can you give the link to Andrew Zimmern's blog with the gear listing? I've been to his website and cannot find the list... Thanks.

I have recently gotten into criminal minds and in one episode that I am watching right now. Agent Hotchner uses an Original Leatherman Wave to remove a microchip from a walkie talkie.

Contrarily, Robert Redford's character hikes the Appalachian Trail for months in A Walk In the Woods without a knife.

Saw an old episode of Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda.

Not to take away from the fact that he's a great detective. Even Kenda admits he can easily come off as a huge jerk. There was one episode in which a person was killed with a folding knife that locks and had a one-hand opening feature. While the exact model wasn't mentioned, the show's producers had a scene of a bloody Spyderco Endura being lifted up for examination. With Kenda just spewing an absolute load of vile, raging, ignorance about it. How such knives are only weapons and only made to kill people.... Honestly, lost a bit of respect for him when he did that. You'd think someone with his intelligence and quite frankly, job; would know better. Or do I pretend that none of the uniformed officers Kenda encountered wore Spyderco Enduras while on the job.

So this is off topic, slightly, but I really had to share: EDC in (an excellent) book.

I finished Reamde by Neal Stephenson recently. It's a 1000+ page beast, longest book I've ever read, and it was a "couldn't put it down, can't believe it went by so fast". I don't want to give too much away... In summary, though, it's about a massive multiplayer video game where someone writes a virus and infects its users. This ends up making some folks (who get the virus) very angry so they go hunting for the people that did this. In the process they stumble upon something... unexpected (to say the least). Several characters make use of EDC, but one in particular is definitely an EDCer and it makes all the difference (notebook, bag / camelback, knife, other). There's even paracord in this... It's a huge book, but crazy awesome, and definitely worth a read. It would be amazing if they made of movie of this...

Has anyone else here read it?

Ones that have helped me out. I wish spyderco had a page on their website dedicated to this, but some of their forum members have made a list

Tonights episode of, Into the Badlands, has the kid playing the colt thinking about cutting his hand with a folder that appears to be an opinel. Also when the Trainer who is in a wheelchair opens his tin of trinkets there is clearly a Swiss army knife of some type. Interesting show so far.

Sonny Langham's character in Predator that wielded a machete to battle the alien was a custom piece made by Texas craftsman Jack W Crain.
