I would prefer to carry as little as possible. In an unknown situation I carry a Skeletool CX. If I know what I am doing and it does not involve work I carry a Delica 4.

It depends. Do we classify a SAK as a knife or a multitool?

I wrestle with this issue just about everyday. I have an original Leatherman Super Tool that just sits in my drawer. I cant justify carrying it because I carry a SAK with virtually every tool that the ST has with the exception of the pliers, and saw blade. I think I prefer the SAK because it's smaller and lighter.

These days I am leaning toward more MTs and less knives. They are more acceptable in urban and professional environments besides, MTs do have knives don't they ? From years of playing with kinds of knives, I don't seem to need blades larger than 2 inches, or 3 inches max.

So, mutitools are good enough for me.

+1 here... same for me, for now. Will have to re-assess someday, but for now, why not both? :highfive:

I think that SAKs should be considered multitools because they have bottle openers , screwdrivers .. etc. The major difference with a Leatherman's multitool is the plier's head.

A knife is, well, ONLY a knife. No toothpick, tweezers, or corckscrew.

I wish they made more multitools without a blade. I can't see myself ever giving up my knife for the lame blades in multitools, and I hate the overlap. Not to mention, of course, the inability to fly with a multitool as they are knives.

I guess you can always remove the blade some how and replace it with some other tool. I'm not even sure if that is possible. Anyone know if that can be done

i like to carry both. i tend to fix stuff, or figit with stuff.

always seems like i need a knife every day. and its better to have something than nothing at all.

plus easy task like cooking breakfast you might notice the cooking pans handle is a little loose, do i really want to go into the garage and search for a screwdriver. or if a bolt needs to be tightened would i want to look for a pair of pliers or a wrench.

plus i dont want to carry around, screwdrivers, pliers, scissors. i'd rather just have a pocket knife and a multi and be done with it.

I carry both, most cutting jobs take so little time that unfolding my LM takes too much time to be worth it. It's much faster to pull a folder out of your pocket.

I carry both because I like to be prepaired for everything. Everything has it's purpose my multi's place is to be a tool. I carry a knife to be a knife. Weight is not an issue for me. To each his own.
