I remember. what kind of car do you have? I drive a Ford F150 and I was told that if I take the plastic off of the key I will probably damage the chip...

A jeep. Rubber case on the key instead of plastic.
But keep in mind, you will only damage the chip if you... Ah, you know, damage it. Lol. As long as you begin cutting off the plastic in a spot where you know the chip can't possibly be located, you have a good chance of making it work right. I started at the top of the key, above the hole where split rings normally go. From there it was easy going. Worst case scenario, you'd have to buy a new key. To me it was worth the risk.

Someone asked me if a RFID fob would fit into the keygrip. I tested it and as a matter of fact it does fit but won't sit flush against the keys and the sides (at least this type) and reduces the number of keys that can go in there. I remembered someone here using a little piece of metal with two holes to attach something like a car key to the keygrip. The FMI1 from GambleMade is actually perfect and adds even 2 lanyard holes.

It's funny you just posted this. I just now got back from my dinner break to Lowe's. I just picked up another Smartkey padlock (re-key-able to your house key). I've got 3 padlocks between my shed & the fence around my yard, and I don't know what's up with Masterlock lately, but I've been through 9 of 'em in less than 3 years. I've been testing the Smartkey lock for the last 2 months on my main gate, and so far, I'm more than pleased with it! So much so, I invested in a second. If this one lives up to the first, I'll have 1 less key in my keygrip and some extra space for something else!

$16.95 for regular shackle & $17.95 for long shackle.

He's got style, a groovy smile, and a bod that just don't stop...

Those Smartkey systems are pretty cool! Currently I only have two keys and no real use for this but I will keep this in mind!

After work tonight, I'll be putting this one on my small gate, & I'll be able to drop a key from my pocket. I'll have to keep one for the shed either in the basement or the garage, but it'll clear up a lil pocket space. I've only had the smartkey lock for a couple months now, but so far, it's outlived the last 3 masterlocks I've had on the main gate into my yard. Up until now, I've always bought locks in 3 or 4 packs, but that was getting expensive! This go 'round, I figured I'd buy 1 lock at a time, especially since these only come in singles, and see if they'd last long enough to replace all 3 of my locks with.
What sucks is masterlock has really let me down! I remember growin' up, my pop had masterlocks on the gate to our pasture, & the farm gas pump we had in the back yard, & they're still working today, rusted up & look like Baghdad, but still work fine. Now I buy a masterlock, & it conks out in a month.
