This is a project that I've been working on for the last several years, and it's finally launched. It's called Keychain Duct Tape, and it's a machined brass or stainless steel spool that holds 18" of Gorilla Tape on your keys. The overall package is 2.5" x 0.625", nearly identical to a tube of chapstick.

The goal was to have a compact and classy way of integrating duct tape into EDC, and I'm very pleased with how well it turned out.

    Stainless:

The primary use of Keychain Duct Tape is quick repairs when away from home:

A typical repair only requires a 1-2" strip of Gorilla Tape. When the spool is empty, it is designed to be fit into a power drill chuck, and then the tape is rolled on at the lowest RPM. Takes less than 2 minutes when you get the hang of it.

Everything (right down to the packaging) is Made in USA.

    What do you guys think?

    Very cool!

Would love to see a video of how the rolling with a drill works.

Also, I imagine it would work for other stuff as well. Any idea how much paracord it would hold?

I just added the GIF of the rolling process ;)

I would not suggest using anything other than Gorilla Tape or Gaffers tape honestly. There just wouldn't be enough room on the spool to hold more than 1'-2' at the most, and Compact Survival Cord (shameless plug!) really does a much better job of providing EDC cordage.

Yeah, I realised after posting that the diameter is quite narrow. Still a very cool item!

    Thanks for the gif.

Done that with electrical tape too. Takes up less room on a cotter pin than wrapping a sample credit card.

BTW, most duct tape conducts. Just an FYI.

I went to the vet with some friends. They always say I'm a sick puppy.

Interesting idea. I would nor carry that on my key chain, though. I don't think the body heat from carrying my keys in my pants pocket would be the best thing for the glue on the tape.

If you use good duct tape (Gorilla) or electrical tape (I use 3M) there's virtually no problem.

I just pocket carry 'em. Have for years. Tape is no biggie to peel off and still sticks well.

Watch your price point. There is an appetite for copper, brass, and Ti so I could see a market but for tape? Patinas, anodizing, etc. are hot of course.

Like most folks I just jerry rig mine. A cotter pin or two for way under a buck. Tape you probably already have. If not then get some. 1000's of uses and not really expensive but always get the good stuff.

Takes a minute or two to hand wind/wrap and the only tool you need is for cutting the ends (just tearing can be a tiny bit messy for this).

So spending $30+ isn't for me. But lots of bling to be had.

I know, but it's just cool to see a "real" product.

It's worth saying out loud that I've placed a couple of orders with Gearward and they've been great.

Don't carry duct tape for the reason that I had no means to carry it with that wasn't extremely "ghetto" and I didn't like wrapping it round a biro. I'm thinking I may purchase one soon and add some to my EDC Keychain.

I dig it! Only negative I could possibly foresee is damage to the brass from the drill chuck. Might have to pick one of these up!
