Deciding on a new pack and looking for a non tactical but still rugged and looking at Kelty products. I've seen reviews and read post on here of the Peregrine 29 but I was wondering how the Redtail 27 compares if anyone has either any advice would be appreciated.

Can't help you with the Redtail, but out of all the packs I own/have owned (Eagle, LBT, TAG, SOTECH, Source), the Peregrine is my choice for school. Doesn't look tactical, but it's more comfortable than others when loaded up. Kelty really nailed it with the suspension.

Now, if I'm doing a Goruck or something similar, I would pick a more heavy duty pack, but for everyday use, you can't go wrong with it.

Check out the MAP 3500 ... An updated version of the Redwing. It was originally designed as a 3-day military pack, but it is also available in non-camo, non-military colors.

Great pack. I own ... and use two (but, not at the same time). There are several comprehensive reviews on this Forum.

Forum member Wolfcri posted the article that got me motivated to buy one. Here it is:

I have an old Redwing 2650 that i bought back early 2000s I'm bad with time. Prob around 2004. Used it as my over night bag since then, and it has held up like a tank. I would highly recommend them. I'll pay some pictures later today when i get home.

I've heard the Peregrine is very comfortable I plan on using it for just an EDC bag with more room than my TT removable pack. I think the Peregrine will take the win on this debate. Thanks for the info.

I recently bought a Kelty map3500 in ocean grey color and love it as my truck bag/BOB/camping bag. I've been eyeing the peregrine to use as a daily school bag because the map3500 is a little big for that.

Kelty Red Cloud 6650; I've used it for about 5 years, broke a chest strap, called Kelty and they sent me a new one,(chest strap), no charge.
This model is huge and heavy.

It seems the Peregrine is on a phase out because no one has one in stock. One place had it but they want $90 for it. Same sight has the Redtail 27 for $71 so I think im going for the 27.

I have a Kelty Redwing 50 and it is a great pack. It is a bit big for EDC but it works great as a BOB or weekend pack. Rides very comfortable.

My husband and I both use Redwing 50's as carry ons for planes. I use a Kite for school.

I miss my old Kelty. I bought one about 35 years ago for a month long hiking trip in the back country of the Canadian Rocky's. It was the most comfortable and durable pack I've ever owned. The only reason I sold it was because I moved to a tiny apartment in Chicago and barely had enough room for a toothpick let alone a big backpack.

I swear you could load that thing with bricks and broken glass and it would still hold together.

Amron International are the only place selling MAP 3500s I believe.

You can pick them up on the largest online auction. Colors available will variate. I have 2 and as others have stated, great pack and well designed for function, and not heavy.

Kelty didn't discontinue the Redwing. My apologies if the way I wrote that sentence lead you to believe that: how about "the MAP 3500 has some obvious similarities to the well-loved Kelty Redwing."
