I would consider what the use of the blade is, and which makes for the most effective tool.

If you are looking at self defence, I would definitely look into training to use a knife properly before carrying one - waving a knife around without any knowledge behind it is a recipe to injure yourself or have it taken and red against you, so I would make sure and learn how to use it - and also which knife would be most practical for the form of defence you use.

I have both and have carried both. Definitely listen to the posters who recommend training. It makes a world of difference. Anyone who thinks a karambit isn't made for cutting doesn't know anything about the reason for a hawksbill design. The blade isn't for everyone, but it does brutal cutting damage.
