So I "impulse splurged" with a little bit of my tax return on a new 5.11 Rush 12 in Double Tap. NICE. Now I see what alot of the fuss is about. I can see it will be a great all around bag.

You will love it, I love mine and have had it for about 4 yrs now. I’ve used it for overnights, disaster relief, day hiking.

I've bought lots of bags and the Rush12 is always the one I look at and think: that works.
    A design classic.

I almost bought one myself but went for the 24 instead, apart from having more capacity I liked the extra pockets etc.

I have them all. I just wish they made a slick version without the molle. In the past few years I just prefer a more grey man appearance. As a result I hardly ever use them unless I’m at an outdoor range or in the woods.

I agree, 511 should offer a grey man version of this bag.

    5.11 "Hush" Series
    Hush Moab 10
Hush Moab 11 (backpack-two strap ver)
    Hush 12
    Hush 24
    Hush 72
*No pals webbing and yet retains the tier system. Web attachment loops for bottom compression.

I remember someone posted a picture here of a Rush 12 with no pals about 5-6 years ago. I think it was a production sample or something to that effect. Reaction was extremely positive.

Well, if you don't mind going bigger, there is the Responder ALS 84 in "Hello, I'm here to help!" Bright blue. Still has acres of PALs though.

I don't think that is quite the effect either of you were looking for in a grey man pack...

The Rush 72 in storm colorway is about as greyman as it gets for that bag though (figuratively and literally).

Hey, I used a Rush 12 for like 3 years and it was great. I only retired it because I was drawn by the shiny allure of TAD's Litespeed. Wasn't the biggest fan of the yoke on the Rush series, the bags sit quite low on the back. Other than that, it's a clamshell bag with an internal framesheet and a bit of velcro on the outside - what more can you ask for?

I love my Rush 12 and 24. I've completely stopped looking at or for nylon backpacks (I do often carry my Saddleback backpack instead, though). If you shop around, you should be able to find the 12 and 24 for around $80 each, which really is a steal, because they'll last and last and you won't need to replace them for a loooong time. If you're on the fence, the sooner you jump, the sooner you'll get to start using it, and if you're going to do it anyway (you should), then why wait? I haven't seen anything that matches the quality of construction or functionality of organization, and certainly not at that price.

I would prefer they didn't have the webbing though, and add bottle pockets to the sides. I emailed 5.11 suggesting that, but they haven't listened to any of the other suggestions I've sent them so I'm not holding my breath.

They never replied to my suggestions about their pants either.

I have carried my RUSH 12 now for almost seven years, it’s a great bag. It was a Christmas gift from my G/F “now wife” then and after two years she got me the RUSH 24, I like it also but for my daily duties it’s to large but I still keep it close for trips.

It’s hard to beat the value vs price.

I have very recently acquired a first Gen Lightspeed and want to try it out but I’m not sold just yet.

I have a hard time giving up things that just “work well” for me!
