Not me, but what one journalist takes to Afghanistan: PDF link: http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/afghanartist1.pdf Items of note: leather gloves, to escape an burning vehicle two hard drives, for backup and backup backup cigarettes, as an impromptu conversation starter 20 Clif Bars
I don't smoke but I like the idea of the cigarettes as a conversation starter/barter item. Now I'm trying to come up with something similar that would be more socially acceptable in our culture and still achieve the same goals. The best I can think of is gum, but that isn't quite the same.
I like the back up to the back up. I remember reading once that the main photographer on Omaha Beach lost 90% of his photos. He sent them back with a boat shuttling wounded and it sunk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the link. His Graphics gallery on his webpage has a style similar to Frank Miller. Another option to Krazy Glue is to use Seam Grip. And gaff tape rather than duct tape.
Any chance you're thinking about Robert Capa? His film was ruined by an assistant who left it in the film drier too long. The few remaining images were amazing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magnificent_Eleven Cheers, Ted
Leatherman and duct tape need no explanation. "Don't leave home without it!" Interesting how his lighting is distinctly non-tactical; sounds like the main use is close-up camp use. Figures, the troops he's embedded with watch the perimeter at night, any they primarily rely on night vision equipment. Carrying four micro lights might seem excessive, but those little buggers are easy to lose! Wouldn't be surprised if he gives them away occasionally, too.
You know it's funny seeing stuff like this. When I was first deployed to Iraq in 2002/2003 I had never heard the term EDC. Many people questioned why I packed and carried so much "extra" stuff. These were the same guys who would come looking for me when they needed "something". I remember having (and losing) many of those same LED lights and also packing several cartons of cigarettes even though I didn't smoke. It's amazing how people from different countries get so excited about getting to smoke American cigarettes.
