Is wearing a watch a necessary item of your edc kit? Especially with this age of having a phone most times. I wear mine for work (as an EMT it is very helpful) but I have found myself wearing it casually much less. Anyone know of situations where it would be necessary to have one? Thanks!
What moostapha said. I'm also in college, so it's good for checking the time on the go, between classes. I don't go anywhere without my watch. I also know that my watch is always accurate. I'd rather just look at my wrist than take the time to pull out my phone.
I'm strange, I don't need to know what time it is on an often basis. There's clocks everywhere and usually my phone is in my pocket. I wear my watch when I'm not working though.
I almost always wear a watch, only times I don't is when I'm doing some kind of rough work where it might get caught on something or damaged, of if I intentionally don't want to bother knowing the time. A lot of clocks I see around are off by up to 10 minutes or more, which really annoys me. My watch alway stays within less than 2 minutes of official time, and if I notice it is more than 1 minute off from a reliable clock I will synchronize it at the next opertunity, I'm a bit OCD about that, LOL.
I rarely ever wore a watch until a friend gave me a nice one for a Christmas present. I started wearing it out of appreciation and politeness and within a week I found I really enjoyed the convenience. I like that I don't have to fish my phone out of my pocket just to check the time, and it's more convenient for timing things as well since the phone usually idles out when using a stopwatch feature. Overall it just makes me feel more put together.
Wearing a watch is an absolute necessity for me... I also require my watches to have stopwatch capability. I time everything...A defect in my personality.
Time is important for me and a quick glance at my watch is faster and sometimes safer than pulling my phone out of my pocket to check the time.
once i started wearing one i never stopped way better than having to whip out the phone to check the time. also i could get fired for having my phone out at work so even more reason to not
Yes. I check the time very frequently and it's much more convenient and quicker (not to mention less rude to anyone I might be talking to) to quickly glance at my wrist instead of pulling my cell phone out of my pocket (if I'm carrying it, which isn't all the time). I also have a tendency to not trust clocks I didn't set. I used to have a teacher that had two clocks in the room- one in the front, one in the back. Half the time one or the other of them wasn't working, the other half of the time one or the other didn't have the right time, and you never knew which one it was. That drilled into me the need to have a watch and stop relying on other people's time. Not to mention the fact that if the clock is on the other side of the room from whoever you're speaking with, it's kinda disrespectful to the other person IMHO if you turn around to look at the time. Much better to turn your wrist and glance down for half a second. But that's just me.
i use mine at work and school helps alot and i dont have to fumble with my phone to know the time. however ive been looking at getting a pocket watch for when i need to time things or know the time while working on my truck i dont wear any jewelry. also at work my watch might get caught on things
Nope, the day I retired I gave my Son my Casio and my neckties and never looked back. My retirement mind set is, all I need to stay in touch is a calendar. If someone dies, I put on a sweater.
I only take off my watch at home and when doing rough work, using a computer keyboard, or playing my musical instruments. All other times I must have a watch and I feel out of sorts if I forget it. Also, I work in a school building that has tons of clocks everywhere that are all supposed to show the same time, but never do. It's just easier and more discreet to have a watch then to pull out a phone all the time. Additionally, I love the stopwatch, countdown timer, alarms, and dual time functions on my watch. The dual time is great because one is set to the bells at work and the other is set to official US time off the government's internet site.
For me, a watch worn on my wrist is necessary when I need to know the approximate time but not constrained by it.
At work, absolutely. Of course I can get by with just my phone, but time management is a critical part of my job and checking my wrist several times an hour is faster than checking my phone. Casually outside work I could much easier get by without a watch, but why should I?
