So, I generally buy one or two new bags a month. I regularly scout out eBay and my local surplus stores for any good finds. I currently own somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 bags of different types. Kifaru, goruck, London Bridge, Eagle, SDS....yup. I have a few and the count keeps growing. My pals tease me and say I have "a bag for every occasion" since I change them out so often. I have to admit though, it's a hobby and I love it! So how about it? Any other self proclaimed bag addicts out there? Does your buying cause you grief with the spouse? Tell me I'm not alone! And most of all, share pics of your collections! Mine are coming soon! If you do find one do not tell me about it. I happen to enjoy this addiction. I have been through quite a few bags in the past couple of years, it only takes one good one to get started. The part that annoys my wife the most is that i cant walk by the backpack department of any store and not stop to look at them. I dont mean glance in their direction, i mean pick all of them up and look into all of the features. Although the wife asks me if i actually need a new bag when i shop around, she doesnt put up too much of a fuss when i buy yet another one. Ok so the bag addiction is bad, but what is worse is the knife addiction. Good Lord its starting to stack up. Thats for another sub forum though. Bag collecting is by far my favorite hobby. I dont think it will ever go away, just get quite for a while until the next bag need comes along.
You're not alone buddy!!! I'm busy figuring out a way to sneak in my next bag so the wife doesn't freak out - again lol I've had my current bag for 5 months and even after the purchase I was looking! I hope the 12 step programme you speak of give you a new bag at the end of each step - I'd do it twice
yea your not kidding about the knife thing two benchmades a couple SOGs, a ZT, couple spydercos and a RAT 1 and i just shake my head lol but i do love them and it really does only take one to get you started.......although my first one was a gift so i blame my friend
The only 12 step program I am aware of is the 12 steps the ups guy makes bringing the new bag to my door. Unless I happen to be home, then it is more like 2 steps since I'm already out there waiting.
Medium shirt for me. Knives, packs, and firearms. Justification to my better half can be difficult, but I always find a way. I should have been a lobbyist. When it comes to packs, I can't justify keeping a bunch around, it just seems like a waste of money that could go towards a firearm or knife. I have purchased/returned/sold packs from most of the major companies, but currently own a goruck gr1, eagle mmp, and a camelbak mil mule. I did order a hpg tarahumara yesterday, and an emerson a100 today, and I might pick up a lever action rifle this weekend. Let the lobbying begin.
My best argument so far is, "honey when crap hits the fan, your gonna love me for being able to trade knives and bags for food." She isnt as much a believer in the whole Armageddon scenario, but she does know a disaster, natural or other,is close enough and any tool and a bag to carry them is vital. Along with all the other survival items and kits i try to put together. I did luck out and marry a woman that loves hiking and camping as much as i do; so as long a new bag or knife is for that, shes usually down with another purchase.
For males, consider a sex change. Now you can buy shoes to match those bags! Ok, I'm only kidding, don't change your gender just so you can buy more stuff! My suggestion for dealing with an addiction...find another addiction to replace it.
2 Backpacks, 4 shoulderbags, 2 motorcycle bags, 3 large suitcases, 2 carry-on trolleys. Hmm. So you say I may have a problem?
Bag Disease equation: I buy too many bags, therefore I have a problem I know I have a problem but it is less of a problem because I know about it. Now that I know, my problem is not so bad. Small problems are not worth worrying about. So why worry?
Yeah, it's called private school for the kids... all of a sudden you discover how many toys you can do without... Besides, it's more fun making your own...
I think a person has to admit there is a problem. They have to admit that they are powerless against bags. That said I really like my addiction. Just sayin'
Step 1: Scout interest in the next bag. (HPG Tarahumara). Step 2: Acquire next bag. Step 3: I've never gotten this far. Sorry folks :/
