Completely fluff pole: Index cards vs memo pads. What do you have/want in your pockets?
The only paper I carry
I have some index cards (A7 size) in my LFP, held together with a Wenger MoneyClip. But I want to get a holder for them, preferably made of leather and with a pen slot (Kaweco Liliput; probably similar size as a Fisher Bullet Pen).
When i carry bag i usually have a notepad of some form or another in it, but i do not carry it always. What i DO always have on me are usem note-cards, they are credit-card size heavy paper/light cardboard cards with various line-layouts that just so happen to fit perfectly in my card-holder thingemebob.
And even when i do have a notebook on me i still prefer these little cards, i almost never have the need to write multiple pages so one card is just as easy
Those are brilliant! I love the fact that they have a .5x.5cm grid on the back. I took advantage of their offer to send a few free samples. If they look good I'll definitely be ordering some!
Hey what can i say... Dutch design best design
Awesome, I will have to look into those!
It's not leather, but the NockCo Fodderstack is a close fit. 3x5" notecards, and an AL Sport. The pen sleeve can actually fit two if ya don't mind a little rubbin'
I have been using the Levenger system for a long time.
Unfortunately the Pocket Briefcases seem to be going up in price and down in quality and attention to detail and thus value.
The cards though are pretty vital to me and it would take a lot to make me change.
Those Dutch cards have a lot of potential,I sort of hope I can not get them here!
Stonerman33 I looked up the measurements, and the Fodderstack is a bit larger than I’d like. But for the specified paper format it’s probably very convenient.
I've carried a pocket sized dairy in my jeans back pocket for many years, have used a spare page in that to write down a ladies number etc. Lol
I have now placed some small note pads in my rucksack & other bags but I don't always have them to hand.
I can store a memo on my phone, taking a picture or recording is often easier though.
Levenger-brand 3x5-inch notepad in a calfskin holder
It was hard for me to answer the survey since i carry 3x5 cards paper clipped to my pocket notebooks as sort of a supplement to the notepad itself.
Sooner or later, this thread is gonna cost me money.
LOL,.........don't they all mate.
I'm mostly a notebook guy, but at my second job, notecards are more convenient so I usually have both in close proximity.
Rite in the Rain makes an "index card wallet" that might be of interest.
That's for sure. I've already found something like those Dutch Design cards at Levenger.
I've done it all... hipster PDA, loose cards, and started to try cards in a wallet/holder... Can't find a holder thats not too big to be worth getting and trying to pocket...
I find a notebook better, mainly because I don't have to open anything, or re-stack/re move etc anything to simply "turn the page"(over) for more writing. Index cards even in a wallet/holder are too much of a hassel for me in that regaurd.
Also, holders add too much bulk for me. I;ve never actually bought one of the card holders/wallets because they all add so much realestate to the size, making 3x5 writting areas no longer fit in my shirt and jacket pockets.. Might be able to do it now that I've gotten used to 3.5x5.5, but it still has the other problem above..
I did a custom hipster PDA(index cards and a binder clip... google "43 folders", "diy planner", and "hipster pda", its actually rather nifty how many templates you can get for custom printed index cards!) Did that for about a year, and while its super versatile, and compact, its not real durrable, and as I said, turning pages or looking for things is a P!TA, having to undo the clip to sort through the "pages"
I ended up with a 3x5 RITR spiral top for a few years, basically the same as index cards, but attached for easy flip through. Then went to 3.5x5.5 side bound, book style, Moleskine etc, and now Field Notes, the style is easier for the way I organize things these days.
Good luck having ANY money left after visiting them!!
