When I leave home, I always make a ready-check before I close the door. 1. Keychain with the home keys. = ready to go (if I forget something, I can go back in and get them). I haven't locked myself out for 20 years now Now that I said that, I'll prolly manage to leave my keys home some day. 2. wallet 3. phone (HTC Desire, does many things in one) 4. If going to work, LM Wave 25th Anniversary Model usually in the belt, otherwise in backpack. 5. If going to work, fistful of usb sticks.
In terms of what I carry as 'EDC'... 1. Victorinox cadet SAK 2. Fenix L1T 3. Fisher space pen + small moleskine notebook 4. Musicians earplugs 5. Camera Most should be pretty self explanatory really, the musicians earplugs come from being a fan of live music, but not a fan of the volume levels, so are typically carried in my bag for whenever I do end up catching some live music. The camera purely because I am a photographer in my spare time, and always have my compact camera with me wherever I am (the SLR coming out when I am planning on taking photos, the compact everywhere) Similarly to TheDukeOfTank that is not everything I carry, but that is the 'preparedness' side of things. I didn't count things like my watch, phone or wallet which are all items on my person whenever I am out the house, but are normal enough items that pretty much everyone carries, whether they have heard of the concept of EDC or not.
Wallet - Big Skinny Bi-fold Knife - Benchmade Barrage 580 Flashlight - Surefire U2 Ultra Cellphone - HTC Evo 4G Watch - Casio G-Shock XL Blackout
If I was to totally pare everything down to clothes +5 it would be: 1. Mobile phone iphone4 has time when needed so I won't need a watch 2. Leatherman wave I use this frequently, plus theres a firesteel in the sheath 3. Keyring has keys fauxton, sak, firesteel and pen 4. wallet with cash, cards, fresnel lens 5. sunglasses thats the absolute bare minimum I leave the house with. If I had to, I'd take the SAK and firesteel off the keyring
1: Watch (Seiko 5/Casio Telememo) - I sleep with my watch, always have to know the time! 2: Leatherman Wave w/accessories of course, super versatile with the extra bits. 3: Flashlight - I find myself using one all the time, one of those things you don't think you need until you start carrying one 4: Pen (Fisher Astronaut) - I generally prefer writing in pencil but usually only need a pen for signatures, and in a pinch I can write notes on my arm. 5: Folding knife (usually a Spyderco Persistence), very handy to have. This is a really hard thing to do but I'm lucky that I don't ever really need keys and I don't own a cell phone. If I had to carry keys then I guess I could live with the blade on my Leatherman alone to keep the five item limit, but that would stink. Just speaking as a regular suburban dweller I couldn't imagine going without a watch of some sort and a pen. I was going to put my wallet on the list but I don't ever NEED it, it just facilitates the spending of cash on more edc stuff I think I could live with carrying 10 things perhaps but five would end up being really inconvenient and impractical for me.
Phone Watch Knife Keychain Pen Style/brand what not doesn't really matter - as long as I have the functionality of above said items I should be good to go. BTW I deleted the watch for about a year and a half but with the iphone you have to press the home button to get the time and that is annoying so back to the ol' wristwatch.
Not too many surprises, here. With what I currently own: SAK - Victorinox Explorer Plus Wallet - Saddleback Narrow Flashlight - Preon 2 Keys - So I can get back in my house Phone - iPhone
