Trying to find a small cheap molle backpack for an edc load consisting of a 7" android tablet, some hot wheels cars, a water bottle and a bag of goldfish crackers. Needless to say it is not for me but my 3 1/2 year old wants a backpack like daddy's to carry his stuff in.

Something around 8-10 inches tall would fit him well. Obviously this is not something I want to spend big money on but his Lightning Mcqueen and Perry The Platypus backpacks aren't tacticool enough for him now. Torso measures just over 11 inches.

    Any suggestions?

Wife checked tonight and every one they had locally is too big. Smallest they had was about 12 inches. They had one small bag but it was designed to attach and didn't have straps to use as a regular pack.

I saw a thing at Walmart last night that had an ACU molle backpack, toy gun, toy binoculars or toy knife, and a canteen if I remember correctly. The backpack is kid size. There was a bunch of them on an endcap by the toys section. It was pretty cool; I would have liked to get something like that as a kid. I didn't look at the price, but I doubt it was expensive.

What about fashioning some shoulder straps on to a molle pouch?

You could pick up a Rothco or Condor MOLLE 3 day pack for pretty chep. My 6 year old son uses his every day for school.

For my girls, instead of a backpack I started them with a small satchel. Less tendancy to overstuff and it's easier for them to fish stuff out. If you need/want to he can wear it like a backpack 2qt canteen style. picked this up at wally world too. I'm sure you could get blk/grey/blue & but patches on it:

I added the little county comm button light to the key fob as a bonus :)
A great gift at about that age is the bushnell (or similar) monocular.
    Good luck.

For the size you're describing, your best bet (I think) is going to be a hydration pack of some sort.

To get it within your budget, I suggest looking on Ebay or maybe a local Army/Navy surplus store. A used Camelbak Mule or Hawg would be a good fit. You might find it helpful to price Airsoft knockoffs as well since.

I got the Camelbak Mini-Mule for my oldest daughter when she was 9 or 10. Even that would be too big for your guy.

Yeah, I had to re-read the description. Dovk is right - just about any non-child pack is going to be too big.

I think Jedi has the best option going - a largish generic MOLLE/PALS pouch and some shoulder straps.

After researching I either need a Moab 6 sized backpack or a cheap Moab 6 knockoff. I would prefer 2 straps for him. It may be something I have to get and have straps sewn on.

Have you checked out Osprey's line-up of children's packs? Sure, they aren't tacticool, but they are pretty much bombproof and sized perfectly for a child. I got one for my 5-year-old so she could go hiking with daddy!

How about something like the Condor T & T Pouch with a shoulder strap?

It's expensive, but the fight and flight y.u.c.k pack is just the right size.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the suggestions. Unfortunately none of them I have looked at so far are going to work as far as off the shelf packs. I need something 10 inches max height for him. We may have to get creative and use the straps on a pouch idea if I can find a way to do it. Otherwise we are going to have to see how he does with a shoulder bag.
