If I am able to get the plumbing fixed I won't need baby wipes anymore, I haven't been able to use the tub or wash clothes since I made a mess of the plumbing during wound packing. I had to delay work on the plumbing until next Saturday. I had to take care of some old customer issues before noon Saturday and I need to keep working on that until I get caught up. I really regret what I did to my plumbing.

First off I am really hoping you are getting close to all healed up. The plumbing issue is likely the last thing you need on your already overflowing plate, but I have to say that particular line did make me chuckle a little bit. All I could think is the day after Taco Tuesday.

I live in southern Oregon, reading the thread caught my eye. I live in Medford and visit Ashland weekly.

I actually live in Ashland, Montana :D. It's a common mistake (well, as commonly as Ashland, MT gets talked about anyway). Even most Montanans are more familiar with Ashland, Oregon than Ashland, MT.

Still not able to be active out here. I have a secondary infection, I am not 100% sure what the proper definition of that is, it is a different then the original problem but they are related. I think I mentioned that I created a problem with the plumbing here during wound packing. I thought we got the issue fixed by I was wrong.

I am working each day but can only be on my feet an hour or so at a time and I am spent and have to take a break and half the time I fall asleep when resting before trying to get up again. I have been told my body is telling me I need rest but I am resting too much. Someone is coming out this weekend with an idea on how to fix the plumbing problem and I am getting taken someplace to get a shower was back in December. That is the prime suspect on the secondary infection and fever that I keep getting over and over again. The surface wound from the last surgery has not healed properly and hurts pretty bad.

I am going to keep on working on what I can each day, hopefully after this weekend I can keep properly cleaned up and I can start to get healthy again and then work longer days. Hopefully I can get caught up enough to be on the forum again soon. I feel like I have been sick forever.

John when you are healing you need much more rest than normal.
Also if you try to push through it, you will only increase the time it takes to heal.
Making your recovery time even longer.
    Rest and get better!
    Best wishes!

And on the other side of the coin, moving around gets fresh oxygen/nutrients to the body. I have known Jon for a long time, and I share is stubbornness when we are sick. If I feel like I coming down with something, I try to exercise it out...get the white blood moving, opening the pores, sweating it out, and raising body temp to try to "burn it away". Not the best method, and results have been 60/40 in terms of success rate. Fluids...tons of fluids...er...but not from your water line.

In your case Jon, God I pray that you don't have some kind of flesh eating thing going on. Not sure of the location of your wound, but one of my co-workers once scratched his leg on a bench while we were on OT...he rinsed it out with water from a spigot and put some hand sanitizer that we all carry at the facility. Few days later, his leg swelled enormously, and he had bouts of fever and pain. Wound was looking nasty. After a doctor visit, he had mersa...had to pay a ton to get some antibiotics...

Jon, PM me your current addy please...and no worries sir, you'll be more than fine. Keep that wound dry.

Miss you, prayers and much love your way brother!

Jon, a dear friend of yours asked for me to chime in here because of his concern and because I am a nurse who specializes in wound healing. I posted to you several months ago, but you had so many replies at that time, it may have gotten overlooked. So here's a copy/paste of my original post:

Praying for a speedy recovery and for hands of healing to be placed on you.

I work for an advanced wound healing facility. We are owned by a company called Healogics and provide state-of-the-art wound healing along with hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Healogics operates over 800 centers nationwide and is the leader in wound healing. Please research this company and find a location near you. They will provide care that you won't receive from your hospital or current doctors. The results are simply astonishing. In the past 8 weeks, we have almost completely healed a patient's foot who was facing an amputation. The services are out there to help you...you just need to seek them out.

I also want to add that if your wound hasn't been cultured recently, I would request that be done ASAP. Different bugs need different drugs. Also, you can build up a resistance to antibiotics. A wound culture, if positive, will give your doctors a susceptibility report so they can be sure they are prescribing medication that you're not resistant to.

If you need more information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Flushable wipes are evil incarnate! They cost wastewater utilities millions of dollars in damage to lift stations and pumps. The city of Portland temporarily banned their sale before the large companies behind these types of products flexed their legal muscle.

They are long-strand, non-woven fibers and do not breakdown, not even after going through a chopper pump.

There are some short-strand wipes that have been developed, but they will have to be manufactured differently. Also, some are salt-based...

It's nice to see some 2006 members. :)

I have now been sick for 11 months. I took a turn south not too long after my last surgery. Since the last surgery I was only able to be on my feet a few hours a day and moving very slow. I was up six hours yesterday, still slow but not as slow as I was. I am still working on catching up.

My situation makes it kind of hard to recover well. I have found just like in a lot of areas one problem can create a string of other problems. One health problem helps create another one.

I have been taking care of old business but only one or two at a time. The problem is I cannot really take care of myself, not even the basics. This is not intended to gross anyone out but just to show how limited I am. I can't reach these, you can't tell from the photo but they have actually became tube like where the right and left side makes contact underneath. I went months where my shoes never even came off I was so weak at the worst point.

Again this is just to show how incapable I have been and not really about the feet themselves.

The simplest things are really hard to do. Okiechick has found out about my condition and wants to come over, I am afraid she is going to freak out. The rest of me is in just as bad of shape. I am still trying to do things, and I got about 75% of it done but it is still going to take awhile. I am sorry to everyone I have let down but this really did a number on me in a lot of ways.

Jon, you're not letting anyone down at all. We understand. Just get better and don't feel bad about accepting help. If Okiechick wants to come over, you better let her help out, though I think if she saw those pics, she's probably already on her way. Kind of scared me at first, your feet look like you're turning into a character from X-men. It's so good to hear from you, just keep getting better and worry about getting work done once your health is where it needs to be. And, like Umberto said, I think you're in all our prayers, just keep getting better man.

don't you have some friends or neighbors around that could help you with these basic things?
I once helped an obese person I knew to cut his toenails, that looked just like yours. it takes while to grow them like that. Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
if you havent taken off your shoes in months, be happy that your feet still look healthy. I have seen worse feet.

take care. wash your feet and keep'em dry and don't lose hope. things will get better.

I hope you'll get well soon. Best wishes!
