Just had a package delivered to me from a purchase I made on the BST, on Monday, and there was no item in the bubble wrap envelope package.

I couldn't believe my eyes. Looked at the top of the envelope and I noticed that it had an opening that looked like someone cut it open. The whole envelope was taped from top to bottom from the sender to protect it from getting tossed around and not ripping.

I called Canada Post and they can't do nothing cause I am the receiver and not the sender.

I than called CBSA and they told me that if there is no letter in the envelope and a sticker on the outside than they never received it and couldn't have seized my item. Also, they would have re-sealed the envelope with yellow tape.

I was so looking forward to this purchase as it was a gift from my wife to myself that I picked out.
    ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

D amn You Canada Post. It definitely got stolen, just where I don't know. I am so mad right now!!!!!!!!

    Sorry to hear that. :(

Pro tip: I have been taping the items I mail to the inside of the package, whether it is a box or envelope. That way if a dishonest postal worker cuts through the outside tape, they won't be able to steal the item through a small opening. They'd have to really tear into it which is much more difficult to conceal.

I would complain to the Canada Post Ombudsman. It could have happened in the originating country too though. Certainly worth sending a note to the Ombudsman.

I bought a case knife for my son for a special occasion, he lives in another state so I shipped the knife and a couple of other items to him so he wouldn't have to bother with them while flying back. The box arrived to him with a taped up cut and a missing knife. Do I know how you feel. The USPS left me with no recourse. So I feel your pain. I have taken more extreme measures when shipping since then. Did the sender insure the package?

It was a Ontario TAK 1 with hard kydex sheath. I told Canada Post that it was a Camping bushcraft knife.

I'm just waiting till the sender files a complaint with USPS cause Canada Post said they cannot do anything until they receive correspondence from USPS. The odd part of it all was that the envelope was elastic wrapped with 2 other packages from 2 other purchases that both my wife and I had made. Those other 2 purchases were fine.

Not sure yet if the sender had insurance on the package or not.

That's a good idea about taping the item to the inside of the package. I'll be doing that from now on.

My sister sent me a package last week when it arrived there was a long slit/hole in the side of the box big enough to slip my hand into. Lucky though nothing was missing from the box.

Had the same thing happen with a Morris friction folder that I got for my brother's birthday. Empty envelope arrived.

    Thieves are everywhere.
I just hope they won't be able to "have benefits from what they stole to you".
This is a kind way to say what i think about them.

I had a 10/22 bull barrel stolen almost 20 years ago... USPS mailed 1/2 of a ripped open shipping tube that a blind person could tell was empty. And when I complained USPS said "You didn't buy insurance, so we won't help you.":banghead::stomp:

I'm really sorry to hear about that, Face. I can't say I've had anything stolen that way, but I have had packages not arrive, or disappear. Bianchi didn't want to send me anything for a while (25 years ago), because I wasn't getting the packages (UPS). They were probably stolen.

I bought a J.R. Stupero blowgun many years ago, which was shipped with darts. I know a guy who worked in the processing plant at the time. The tube was compromised, and a worker pulled the blowgun out of the tube, along with a few darts. The workers were amazed that they couldn't get the darts out of the wood they fired upon (none of them carried a Leatherman; without a Leatherman, forget it!). The guy I know was pretty curious about the recipient, so he went to look at the shipping label. He laughed when he saw my name. Soon after, I received a letter from the Canadian Border Patrol about importing a prohibited weapon, and that I had to go downtown to discuss the matter. The Border Patrol gave me the option of the package being sent back, which I chose. It was really funny, because the lady officer was talking to me like I was in a load of s%#&, and I was just laughing inside. I was not afraid of them. I never contacted Stupero about this issue.

Two weeks later I came home from day shift at the factory, and there was a long tube on the newspaper hooks on the mailbox. I opened it to find a blowgun. There was electrical tape over the mouthpiece. I called Stupero on the phone right away and he just laughed. He knew exactly what happened, and he knew how to get around it. The darts arrived in a separate package marked 'golf tees.'

I got scared a few years later and destroyed the blowgun. I'm really kicking myself for that now.

The postal worker I know told me to keep that story to myself. He said those guys could have gotten into a lot of trouble for doing what they did. What they did was actually a federal offense. Also, if they had left the package alone, customs would not have been alerted to its contents, and it would have arrived at my home with no trouble.

Apparently and according to USPS the sender DID NOT file a complaint with them in regards to the package sent empty. This after he told me that he did and when I didn't hear back from him for 2 days I than made a call myself to USPS and they told me that they don't have a complaint on file in regards to this.

After realizing that I might be dealing with a welcher, I contacted Paypal and relayed the information to them in regards to the contents of the package missing. They are in the process of a claim specialist reviewing my case.

I find it quite laughable that the sender would insinuate that I removed the item from the package upon receiving it and am trying to pull a fast one here. We're talking about a $60.00 knife here folks. I've purchased countless other items of higher and more quality caliber than this one, and this is the one item I choose to be "dishonest" about. Makes me now realize why this person was banned on another forum that's knife related.

This is why it is vital that we continue to use the feedback on this forum and I'm just as guilty as others for not using it. Also, don't be afraid of being honest with it as it will only be doing a disservice to yourself and others if you're not. Don't ever be afraid of leaving "honest" feedback regardless of repercussions or negative feedback being sent back to you. If you're honest with yourself, than others will be honest as well.

I vow to myself that I will use the feedback from here on in and apologize to those that I haven't made the time to leave feedback for.

    Cheers,
    FACE

I had a rare/signed book go missing in the post once. post office swore up and down they delivered it but i never got it, sender tried to help but couldn't. that was the only problem I've ever had with them, though.

My luck with other carriers is far worse, as the problems are routine/recurring with no resolution in sight. FedEx quietly leaves a door sticker saying they tried to deliver without ever knocking and i have to go out of my way to get the item from their office. UPS likes to hand my packages to any random stranger within sight of my front door also without knocking, which is a problem since i have crazy neighbors I'd rather not have to interact with to receive my parcels. I have complained wiht both carriers about this, but apparently their delivery people are in such a rush that this sort of non-delivery is the standard procedure, so I avoid ordering from places that don't ship USPS.
