Is there a practical way to write something on it on the backshoulder part for every run?

^ What he said. Maybe try a "rubberized" paint the will stick to itself better and fill in the mesh's holes. Typical paint will not fill in the holes. Depending on what you want, maybe sew a velcro loop field and add a hook backed message ie. patch

    spraypaint.

if you can stencil it, I would suggest you get some silkscreen mesh (a nylon curtain will do, too) and staple it on a wooden frame and then use your stencil (use acetate or paper, something thin) for printing. it is easier than you think. will look a lot better than spraypaint, especially if you want to have bright colors on dark fabric. if you don't want to invest money in actual textile ink, you can use cheap acrylic paint, which is waterproof and should be enough for these vests.
