When on your keychain, how do you keep it closed?
A rubber band seems kinda lame. :|
An "O" ring works for me.
That's pretty much the same as a rubber band tho. :|
Double sided tape...?
I use a section of bike inner tube LENGTHWAYS over it, cut to full width - just fits nice. Then punched a hole through and put a split ring through.
Now it has a full cover which can be "peeled" back for use but is still attached doesnt get lost. Also stops "rattle"
Hope that makes sense
Ok... no sense, also I don't have any bike inner tube.
Also I am hopefully getting this Titanium P51
So its not EXACTLY the same. :|
The P51 I keep on a keychain has a tiny piece of blue sticky-tack in between the two pieces. It has never come apart accidentally since I did this. Before I started doing this, I had stopped carrying one in my pocket, because it would occasionally open up and stab me in the leg.
here we go ....
Oh Icee it now. :3
Doesn't the rubber kind of smell though?
LOL - Yeah, if you stick it up your snout :lol
To be honest I have an appauling sense of smell so doesn't bother me in the slightest, so can't really comment fairly on that.
Works for me though - keeps it tidy, quiet and safe
I just use a little tape. Worked for me for the past few years.
Crimp down on the hing area so it does not flop open easily.
Scroll down until you see the header about the P-38 retainer clip. Can be made from a paper clip. I have used this method for more than five years with no accidental openings whatsoever.
I use a twist tie (wire between two narrow sheets of plastic). I remove some of the side plastic to reduce the width and insert it into the hinge.
Hey thanks for posting this! I just ordered a couple and was wondering how to keep them closed when they arrived.
Heat shrink tube, unless its going to be used all the time, but if it is a emergence only, i would cut a small piece of heat shrink, and wallah... JR
+1 on the Heatshrink! I use 1/2 inch heatshrink tube: If you heat it gently it'll form fit, and you get a sheath that will slide over the P38 just right. It won't fall off or perish, and doesn't smell.
I put a safety pin through the hinge on a P-38 can opener the other day, the whole assembly then rides in a pocket pouch with a bunch of other gear.
Seems to work for what I want, but might not be the best for open pocket carry. (although, if you found a really small safety pin...)
I like the inner tube idea! might have to try that...
I like the tube idea. Might have to give that a try.
