I usually have at least two with me; a “Tactical” mega-lumen eye burner and a small keychain style light. Currently they are a Streamlight Protac 2L and an Inova squeeze light. I add a Nitecore Thumb when I’m at work for illumination around a patient when I don’t want to disturb them during long transports (sleeping patients are happy patients). At home, a 4C Maglite with an LED drop in sits next to my bed.

You always “need” the one you see somebody else has, which you don’t!

Did you check that story about getting your info scammed through the flashlight app?

If you got an iPhone it’s part of the UI. No app needed.

Keychain, shirt pocket, normal EDC, light for defensive use (used with the pistol, not defense itself). In the house a bedside light, hiking light, outside only thrower and odd cheapies around the house. Some for the cars too.

Of course not all are carried at the same time. Depends on the daily grind for that day what I’ll actually carry, or use around the house in or outside.

I say, two. One little for real edc and daily use. A light that sized AAA it's just great. Another one, sized AA or AAA with at least 100 lumens for real emergency or occasionally use. I rely in common batteries types because in Italy is difficult to find 123 or 1864 version

Sounds to me like you've got it figured out pretty well.

When I first read the title my mind added 'on you' then I started reading the posts and saw that was not the case. I recently posted this in a similar thread.

I carry 2 on body and like 8 in my EDC bag, 3 in my photography bag, 1 per range/gun bag, have 2 - 3 in 4 different car bags plus 1 in each car console, 1 - 2 in like 5 FAK's and Convoys in every room plus a lantern for each floor of the house and still a few extras sitting ready to be deployed somewhere for something.

I have some extras just because as well as nice bright floody SupBeam K40Mvn, sweet light near the front door next to a Convoy.

I also have a pile of cheapie 3 pack lights from costco and 10 packs (maybe 2 that still work) and freebies all over the house, the kids love playing with them.

Face it. We, just like fanciers of Greyhound dogs (or for that matter, almost anything imaginable!) suffer from laysitis syndrome!

(As in the iconic ad for Lays Potato Chips: NOBODY can eat just one....!)

I'm actually pretty content this days with what I have. Now, if I can just avoid temptation, that will be the trick.

Quit using alkalines. Seriously, just stop.

Nearly all of my lights use NiMH (i.e. eneloop) and get recharged at least twice a year at the time change (in the U.S.). More often if they're used frequently, like the Preon 2 in my side pocket. A couple of lights get lithium batteries, like one I keep in the truck. They do well in cold temperatures.

I try to have 3 lights on me at any given time. There's an Atom A0 on a neck chain, the Preon 2 mentioned above (carried every working day, at least), there's a Thrunite T10-Ti that's either clipped inside a jacket pocket or in my pants pocket, and a Nitecore Tube on my keychain (this may be replaced soon). As a very last resort, there's the flashlight app on the phone (there's more than one, they're not all spyware).

Around the house, there's a light in every toolbox, one in the kitchen, one bedside, one by the back door (5xD Maglite with Malkoff drop-in, this is my see-what-went-bump-in-the-night-outside light). Typically they're the 4xAA variety, actual make/model varies. I do like the Streamlight Luxeon Pro as a general purpose light and have several.

I also currently have 3 battery-powered lanterns (2 led, 1 incan) that are stored under the sink in the kitchen, for now. I do have a fire extinguisher (10# ABC) for each floor of the house plus the garage. One day, if I should happen to muster some ambition, the plan is to make some cabinets that will hold the fire extinguisher, a flashlight, and a lantern. A place for everything and everything in its place, as they say. There would be one for the hallway upstairs, one for the kitchen, one for the basement.

I think I pretty much said the same thing, didn't I? When you buy a new light for today, and call it a day, you're done...for today.

Tomorrow is a new day - with the opportunity to buy another light :) :p
