I love it! Its bumped my Eco Drive chrono, and my Levis convertable watch from being my rough/messy work watches. The '5' is smaller/slimmer, lighter, and cheaper to replace in case something happens to it... And the canvas strap is easier to clean. I actually do know that this one had a problem, but I'm not sure what. I got this watch as a gift from FL Woods Bum. He upgraded to a Citizen Eco-Drive, and wasn't using the Seiko anymore, and I had expressed interest here in trying one so he sent it to me! But anyway, he mentioned that it had recently been in for a service/regulation or something like that... You might be able to send yours in and get it adjusted. I'm not sure how the warrenty is on the lower end models, but Seiko does have a good rep for customer service as I recall; you might not even have to pay for the adjustment. Maybe FL Woods Bum will chime in, I think he might know about that. I have no idea how close mine stays to keeping perfect time, I've never checked it... I tend to wear it for a day, then it lays for 3 or more, so I have to re-start it, and re set it anyway after that long... Err... Come to think of it, I have worn it for about a week straight now, and it can't have lost or gained more than 2 or 3 minutes, not even 5 one way or the other I'm sure, since I have yet to be late etc IE I use it traveling to be somewhere on time, and the time at the place when I get there is about the same.. So it must be keeping pretty good time. Its also surprised me that its pretty durable, I've worn it while running grinders, hammer drills, various chain saws, reciprocating saws... all high in vibration etc.. Its also got banged about in mechanical work, and construction/demolition. I was a bit worried about an auto taking that kind of vibration and impact, but it has yet to effect it as far as I can tell.
That's interesting. Mine looses (if I remember correctly, it's been a while) as much as 12-15 minutes a day.
That watch was sent back to Seiko for repair because it would not stay wound no matter how long I wore it (it was found to be good). They told me that some people have issues with their natural movements not being "compatible" with their watches, particularly the 21 Jewel Movement they use in most of the Seiko 5 series watches to include the Seiko 5 Military that AK has. I bought a watch winder, using it for awhile and just put the watch on it at night, it stayed wound no problem. As to losing time, it definitely lost more time when it wasn't staying wound correctly, after I got the winder, it was better.
Well, that's odd. It never stops running when I'm wearing it, so I'd never considered that it might not be winding well enough.
Wifes edc i put a little kit together for her and she likes it.Put some stuff on her keys and a doohickey on her work id lanyard.Just waiting for her light i ordered her to come in and a sak explorer.
Seiko was really good about taking it back to take a look at it. Didn't cost me a dime if memory serves. You can also pick up a cheap winder, I found one online for about $30 at the time. I later invested in a little bit nicer 4 x Winder which was about $70. There are some really expensive ones out there..
Icon i picked it up at walmart. And thank you as well .They have a few good sized camera cases and you can pick em up cheap. This one is like neoprene so it has some give to it.
Had our reception tonight. Good times with family and friends, good cigars and minimal pocket clutter.
