Nothing cut's like a serrated blade. I can plunge cut into almost anthing. I cut a lot of cardboard, rope, plastic ties and a serrated blade will keep cutting even if I dull the edge.
I use a lansky spyderco dog bone sharpener, spyderco 400f file kit and a leather shoe lace to strop the edge a little. I think the Spyderco 701mf file kit is the way to go. I don't have one but ive heard a lot of folks say they like there's. I will be trying to trade off my 400f kit for the 701mf kit soon.
I love reading through threads like this. Firstly I enjoy the photography and I like to see what works for other peoples edc as mine is ever changing. It gives me great ideas and makes for a very long and expensive wish list. I just wish I had the dslr I want ( funnily enough on my wish list ) to take photos of my edc with. If I get a nice day and some natural light I'll try and get a shot just using my compact would like some input onto improvements
What hatchet said! Also, that way, you and we can see your EDC and your photography progression as time goes on.
When I first found this site I was trying to carry WAY too much. I've always carried a knife but after finding EDCForums I had flashlights, and multi-tools and various other things on my belt and in my pockets. After realizing this just wasn't me (along with a bag full of other things) I've really pared it down to just this (and a watch which I forgot to remove, it's a Citizen Nighthawk). It was fun to sell off a lot of things in order to acquire a few, really nice items. Now, this isn't saying I don't have some of that other stuff. It just rides in the car or only goes with me (specifically flashlights) if I know I'll be out somewhere dark. Slight tangent: Speaking of cars, I found that a 3x5 Maxpedition notebook cover is an excellent car organizer. You can fit a knife, a small multi-tool, a tire gauge, some spare fuses, a small FAK, a few pens and some post-it notes, all in a compact package. I have one that I need to photograph. It's really a nice setup. I also recently pared down my keyring. Removed all the pry bars and things of that sort. A few strips of paracord, two house keys, a file cabinet key and car key (car companies really need to find a way to reduce the size of the fobs). This is what I carry and boy does it feel good to be minimal.
