I am looking for a new knife. I want a high end slip joint. I'm not looking for a strictly traditional style / pattern. I'm intrigued by Lion Steel, and Andre de Villiers. No flippers and no locks. Any suggestions? Not looking to spend a grand. Maybe a couple or few hundred, depends on what it is.

This side of the pond I suggest taking a look at UK makers: Shing, Pieinthesky and Paul Mason. The Spyderco PITS and Titanium UKPK (if you can find one) are also reknowned high quality production slip-joints. At the more affordable end of your scale ( £150ish) is the Boker W.C. Davis slip-joint hunter; which is inmho a very classy looking non-locker.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking for more of a limited production or custom, not so much mass produced, like Spyderco, etc.

There are very limited Customs in the group, but good luck in the search.

Take a look at the YouTube channel of Stefan Schmalhaus (https://www.youtube.com/user/stschmalhaus/videos), he is a collector of gentleman knives, and also wrote a book on the subject (The book is in german, most of his videos are in english). He also used to be on this forum, but I don't know if the is still active.

Thank you for providing this! A really nice antidote to the 'tactical' world!

I can only recommend that book if you have at least basic skills in German reading.

GEC makes the nicest production slipjoints. You’re basically limited to whatever was just released because they almost always sell out. You can check out upcoming models on their website. Most models come in the $90-130 range.

If you’re in the $200+ market you should definitely be hawking the Bladeforums Knifemaker exchange.

Thanks for the insight everyone. Still on the hunt, but I think I am moving towards a Laguiole or Le Thiers.

The only thing I might hunt for in 2018 could be a GEC Northfield #77 single blade with nice long bolsters — MIGHT!

    Something like this...
