I’m looking to get a new multi tool. Looking to spend around $80. I edc a surge right now and love it. I have a sak I got years ago from my dad and a gerber crucial. Right now I am trying to choose between a SOG power assist, Leatherman OHT, gerber pro scout or mp600 knifeless, or maybe the Victorinox swisschamp. I am open to any suggestions. These are just a few that have caught my eye. I am a HVAC installer so the ability to customized the SOG is really appealing to me.

Do you pocket carry or sheath?

The fit and finish on the SwissChamp will far exceed anything else listed.

The OHT does not have a pocket clip or scissors, still a great tool though, plier head is not as large as the Surge head.

SOG does offer different replaceable tools, however in my experience they are all just a little sub-par compared to other brands. Ex: the scissors don't cut as well, tips break or flex on the driver's, etc....

Keep in mind as well the SOG handle splay is MUCH larger than the Surge. Need a pretty wide trip to handle it well.

I usually carry my surge in a sheath or a edc pouch with my phone and a few other things. I have heard mixed reviews on the sog.

I have a LM OHT for hat I keep in my bag. It is a good tool. I got it after I lost my LM Rebar. If I had it to do over, I would replace the rebar. I also carry a SAK executive.
How you carry will make a difference.

I looked at the rebar do you like it? Is it able to be pocket carried? I typically have a sheath on me so a larger tool is ok

I love my rebar personally, I actually got a second and gave it to a buddy and he’s getting great use of it too.

It’s a great too but the pouch it comes with is trash, it wears through quickly even when not seeing daily use.

What pouch comes with it? Would it be something you could pocket carry if you wanted?

Just a basic Molle pouch but it’s too thin, you could pocket carry it but I’m in business gear daily so I wouldn’t.
It sits in a pouch in my messenger bag

I have carried a lot of different MT but stopped switching when I got a Spirit X.

Different guys prefer different things but the hunt for high quality led to the Vic.

I really liked my rebar, but it was too big to pocket carry. I carried my in a skinth on my belt. Really to me anything bigger than a skeletool is too big to pocket carry.

Sounds like the rebar is pretty popular. It looks like a solid tool I almost picked one up before I got my surge.

The Rebar is quite the step down from a Surge. The entire frame is smaller and you'll lose scissors.

Do you have the old model Surge? The newer models have replaceable cutters just like the rebar.

If you don't want to drop down in size, the Super Tool 300 is the same frame size as the Surge, pretty much a Rebar on steroids.

I tried carrying the rebar for a week, sold it immediately and never looked back. If youre going to try for a middle of the road weight the Wave is a much better option.

I have the newer surge. I carry it for work now I’m looking for something a little smaller to carry outside of work but still be useful for projects around the house and other things.

in that case, I would say the Wave is what you are looking for, be warned though, after carrying my Surge or Swisstool for as long as I have (I rotate them) the Wave seems TINY....
