As far as color goes, it's not my top priority. USA made, blade shape, blade steel, and handle shape, in that order are my priorities.

In case anyone missed the other thread, this knife is to replace a Benchmade 824SBT Ascent-2 that I carried for nearly 10 years. I lost the knife a couple months ago. I used Benchmade's LifeSharp Service while I owned it, and overall was just super happy with the knife, and the company.

I'm looking for something a little different this time, but that is where I'm coming from.

    Here's a pic of the knife I'm replacing,from a while back.

That Benchmade above was 154cm. It took a wicked sharp edge and held it great. No complaints on the steel for sure.

I'm going to cut to the chase, and say go buy a Ritter Griptilian or MiniGrip (you have to choose the size). I thought the thumb hole opening was what you were after or I would have suggested this in the first place.

I also vote Ritter mini grip. If you don't like it, you can always just donate it to me for a good home ;)

Yeah, there's also an older version of the linerlock knife with no thumbdisk at all. You have to scroll down on the linerlock page to see them.
I don't know how long supplies of this older model will last, though because he does not tell how much of them are left in stock.

Well I think it has come down to... Paramilitary 2 vs. full size Ritter Griptillian. These are both just barely under 3.5" and I want to go as big as I legally can with this knife. Price is about the same for both of them.

    Para 2 - pros
    • more tactical blade shape
    • thinner, rides better in the pocket
    • g10 scales
    • open back is easier for cleaning
    • no springs
    Para 2 - cons
    • more delicate blade tip
    Ritter RSK MK1 - pros
    • sturdier blade shape, less delicate tip
    • blade better suited to bushcraft
    Ritter RSK MK1 - cons
    • thicker handle
    • plastic scales
    • possible spring failure on Axis lock
If I look at replacing the scales, the Para 2 scales seem more readily available. How do I go about getting scales for the Ritter Grip, and how much do they cost? Thanks!

EDIT - I searched some more and I still can't find anyone in the USA with full size Griptilian scales. The Wilkins scales look to be about $140 USD. Wow!

Get the PM2. You won't regret it. If the tip issue worries you, you might consider Manix 2 lightweight with CPM S110V. They go for about the same price.

I didn't realize there are so many fake Para 2s. If I find one on the bay, would anyone here be willing to look at the listing for me? Thanks!

Just stick to the sellers with almost 100% feedback, you'll be fine. Or Amazon has the real stuff (not the markeplace)

I've been afraid to, myself. I'd be interested in hearing a positive report as well.

Look for "Whitemountainknives". All my knives from them. They on eBay though.
Ecop also very reputable on eBay.

I wouldn't worry about the tip of the PM2, the very edge of one of mine broke off (less than .5mm) I just rounded the spine down and created a micro wharncliffe and resharpened it. No problems since. The picture is bad trying to take a close up with my phone but I think you can get the general idea of what I did.

Email Cuscadi, they have a few options that they don't advertise. Not USA though.

I've added a GITD backspacer and Ti deep carry clip for PM2 to pimp it up a bit.

The criteria you have laid out makes me think a fixed blade would work better than a folder and in that regard I would recommend either a Fallkniven F1 or a Bark River Adventurer. Both are awesome.

If you need a folder, the Paramilitary 2 is as awesome as everyone has said it is.

I was looking at the green scaled Para 2 on eBay that I mentioned earlier. I emailed the link to Spyderco customer support, and Noah quickly replied telling me that it is a fake. The guy is selling it for $135.

I second this. Ordered my Superblue Ladybug on there, and they offer international tracking, something a lot of sellers don't. They even respond to messages in less than a day.
Or it's available on the forum store in camo, just checked Nope it's the military, sorry
