I'm looking for a spyderco ambitious only with better steel. I love the feel of the little blade but I'm not a fan of the 8cr13mov. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

What is your price range and preferred steel since you can't go wrong with the endura, delica, or the police models from spyderco, all of them being vg10. Personally, since I'm big on benchmade, you can go griptillian with 154 cm.

I really like the g10 scales and the blade length and shape and a full flat grind. I'd like to spend under $100 if can.

Try the Cat or the Chicago. Very similar and the Chicago has a CTS BD1 blade, which is a nice steel in Spyderco knives.

You can also check out the Dragonfly, the Chaparral and the Sage 1.

If you want an almost identical knife in every way but the steel check out the Byrd Crow 2. This is part of spyderco's Byrd line and is made in the same factory as the ambitious and it's brothers like the Tenacious. The crow 2 however, is now offered in CTS-BD1 which is an American made steel that from my experience absolutely blows 8cr13mov out of the water in every way (edge retention, rust resistance, etc.). The best part is you can get the knife for around $40-$45 so only about a $10 increase from the ambitious but a huge upgrade in steel. Some other knives you may want to consider are the Buck Vantage pro (s30v steel), the cold steel mini recon & mini lawman (both CTS-XHP steel), the spyderco delica (VG10 steel), and maybe the Kershaw skyline (14c28n) steel. All of those can be had for under $100.

Unless I am mistaken, I believe both the Cat and Chicago have 440C blade steel.

I had a typo. The Chicago uses CTS BD1 steel.

And another typo while I was retyping the typo retype! ;)

They're awesome knives but for some reason the Byrd line has never caught on as well as the Tenacious line despite either being cheaper or offering much better steel. I recommend them to people whenever I can lol.

What do you want out of the steel? Steels balance trade-offs. BD-1 is a fine steel that can take a keen edge but not the last word in edge retention. It is easy to sharpen, however. S110V is the exact opposite.

I was browsing my local sportsman's warehouse and picked up this guy! @ $44 I couldn't not get it. Love it so far, the edge retention is WAY better than the 8cr13mov on the tenacious. I'm loving the CTS-BD1 steel so far. Thanks for steering me to this knife.
