'Hybrid Moments'= Misfits song (one of my favourites). You can't listen to their early stuff??!! Wha??? That's the BEST stuff! Without those early 'Fits sings, metal music would be much poorer for it. American Psycho and Famous Monsters were pretty good albums, but definitely should not have been labelled as Misfits. Lots of extreme bands have cited them as huge influences. Get hold of the 'Collection' CDs. 1 and 2, and go from there. I got into Danzig and Samhain too. I was just coming out of a punk/hardcore phase and into a Black Metal phase.
For those of you who like both metal and H.P. Lovecraft, check out Arkhamin kirjasto - Cult of no return.
I don't know if it's considered "metal", but the heaviest music I ever enjoyed was late '80s early '90's Ministry. The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste is a fantastic album. Saw them live at Lollapalooza in '92. They were vicious.
I have collections as well as some of their other early releases, I love the tunes, so freaking good. No, its just the recording QUALITY. You got to turn your radio up so much to hear it and its just old, poor recordings. The songs are great, just wish they were remastered or something. Famous Monsters is the album that got me into them, saw them for the first time back in 99/00 during that tour (whenever the album came out, they were with Earth Crisis). Before that I'd heard their songs through covers (A Violent World, tribute to the misfits from nofx, snapcase etc), but FM was what got me hooked and then I slowly started going in reverse on their releases.
ps - i am WELL aware of the hybrid moments being a song of theirs, it wasnt just a coincidence. Its a great tune, just rarely listen to it anymore due to quality of recording. See post 286 http://edcforums.com/threads/tell-us-about-your-name.36244/page-15#post-1039999
Btw, anybody seen the Metal Evolution documentary series by Sam Dunn & Scot McFadyen? I just watched the first episode and it looks promising.
i think ive seen most of the episodes at one point or another. i know theres a petition around to either release or make an extreme metal episode. i guess tv programs didnt think it would get very good ratings so it wasnt put out which is just pure stupid
Can't wait for the new Kvelertak album. Currently listening to the last Shining CD. Very nice. Also have Portal's newest but not listened yet. The last one was absolutely mental!!!
I know several of these already have been mentioned but The ones I've enjoyed the most is as follows: In Flames! Mustasch Becoming the archetype Blotted Science Dead by april HIM Misfits, do they count? Swedish, Swedish, American, American, Swedish, Finnish, American. I somehow suspected you would be here Valolammas
Just because I've posted in the "what are you listening to" once or twice? As far as Finnish bands go, I don't much care for HIM myself, I'm more of old school Amorphis and Barren Earth kind of person.
A thread about Heavy Metal?! This really is the best place on the Internet! I've been kind of out of the Metal scene for a while, but I still love the symphonic stuff: Apocalyptica (of course) Nightwish Sammael, not exactly symphonic, but good Dragonforce isn't symphonic, but I heard them one day and my jaw hit the floor. I had a similar reaction when I first heard "Wait And Bleed" by Slipknot: audible clank when jaw impacts hard surface. I really wanted to like Slipknot, but their stuff is all over the map, and by now Corey has something like seven projects running all at the same time. Still hoping for something good from him/them.
I LOVE Apocalyptica's Hall of the Mountain King. Being a Classical Music lover, this kind of stuff makes me happy
