I've actually read up to page 18 so far (out of 24), but I couldn't wait so I took the plunge on a used Kato. My wallet hates you guys, but I still like all of you. :p

Well I caved in and just ordered a matching Flip pouch.

I'm also looking for a custom sewer in my area to do a heavy mod on this bag. I'm keeping the details a secret though...

So, who wants to buy a mint condition Jumbo EDC (no one after seeing TARFU's excellent review) hopefully I can return it ;-)

I got my Kato this morning, special delivery! My god it's a beautiful bag... Got the flip pouch on the side and a Maxpediditon FP-1 on the front for my FAK.

    Here's my H4 Kato:

Added paracord to the handle. Also got a H4 Flip Pouch for it which seems unavoidable it really is a must-have accessory.

To the molle panel behind the outer flap I attached a generic pouch that I store my first aid kit and other medical supplies. I might get the H4 Broadside utility pouch to replace it eventually if it ever comes out in green. Alongside it there was one row left that was perfect for this discontinued TAD Gear pouch I use to hold energy bars and other snacks.

Well it looks like I'll have to go back to the drawing board as far as the mod I had planned. Didn't notice a complication until last night. Argh.

Now I'm seriously contemplating this setup. I've been using my Maxped Operator for some time now, but was interested in something a bit more lo-pro. Ugh. :)

My Flip pouch came in today. Looks good. I've got a 3x5 notepad in the pocket. Nalgene bottle fits good but can't get the buckle closed. I think I small knife or flashlight holster/pouch would compliment it as well but I'm concerned about building the bag up too much.

I really want one but they are on the pricey side, especially here in Europe. Buying one in the US will put about 50 usd in customs on the price. Saw one in BST some days back but the guy selling found out shipping it here cost 200 usd, I will keep my eye on BST however...

Yeah, as I said, about double the cheapest price I saw in the US.

I've shipped a lot of stuff to Europe. I can tell you it will not cost $200.00 to send a bag this size.

Light to moderate rain in Seattle yesterday. Walked about 3-4 blocks when it started getting heavy. Apple Mini in the separate padded pouch section. Got home, took the mini out. There were some drops of water on the back of it, next to the camera lens area.

Its true, the zippers barely keep water out. Something to note.

What about a three piece flap sewn in such a way as to cover the zippered portion exposed to the elements?

Or, how about a rain cover that is stowable when not in use?

I'm honestly not subject to the elements too often, but I may toss in a packable dry bag or even a small trash bag in the bottom of a pocket just to put my mind at ease. You could also get one of those iPad specific dry bags and line the padded pocket with it if it's a big concern, though I think it would prove too much an inconvenience for me personally.

Tom Bihn points out on their website that the YKK Aquaguard zippers are water repellent, not water proof. These are the same zippers Hazard 4 uses on the tablet pocket of the Kato.

In moderate to heavy rain, the only thing that will keep your gear dry is a dry bag or a rain cover. Quite honestly, if your tablet was subjected to heavy rain and only a few drops got in, then I wouldn't categorize that as "barely keeping the water out". Quite the contrary... sounds like it kept most of the water out. ;)

Check out Aloksak. If put your Mini in one of those and then into that pocket, I guarantee it will be bone dry the next time.
