Whenever I am feeling down and frustrated, I check out your thread and feel better. You really seem to put things into perspective for me! Thank you and love your work!!!! Sent by tin can telephone
HJ, if you do not want this in your post, please let me know and I will move it. Forgot to post this. I made this pendant as a gift for our youngest as he Graduated Junior High last night! Going to give it to him tonight at our family dinner! Thanks for the inspiration! Sent by tin can telephone
Please....leave it here for all to see. Beautiful piece. It's great to see everyone being driven to be creative and thank you for the encouraging words. HJ
I feel honored and humbled. In the larger scheme of things, it seems that something else is at work here and I'm proud to be part of that. HJ
I think the draw to your work is that you tend to take common everyday stuff (copper pipe) and turn it into truly beautiful stuff. Plus copper is just beautiful. Once I get some good solder, I'm going to make up a bunch of "Molon Labe"/.308 Win copper tags to give out to my friends, challenge coin style.
That's really a part of it. Anyone with enough money (or sacrifice) can buy something, trendy or otherwise and say "look what I got." I like those things as much as the next guy but there's a difference between a step and repeat piece stamped out on a jig and a piece that is actually touched by a maker at a bench and evolves over the course of a few minutes to several hours. Machines and CNC don't have souls. I want to convey uniqueness in a craft. I like the flaws. I even stop at a point where it looks too good. I hope that makes sense.
I love this approach and mindset. Efficiency & the almighty dollar drives so much these days. I think one reason craftsmanship is becoming so prized is because it has become so rare for most people. Esp. here in the US, everyone is tending towards being 100% consumer all the time. So few are are doing anything to create or produce things. Thanks for sharing not just your craft but also this mindset.
To me its not just that each piece is hand made.but that most of your pieces seem to be made with a particular friend or loved one in mind. It's like permanent home made chicken soup.
I try to establish a connection with each piece. I gift most of these and yes, there is a face sometimes attached to the piece. Many of them went to people that I have never met nor will I ever get the privilege. It's what gifting is about and I think we lost the meaning.
I had someone request the shield tag above so it's off to a new home. I liked it so much that I had to make another for myself.
Good thing imitation is a form of flattery, might try my hand at a few of your brass cross ideas... Nothing beats a hatchetjack original though. Keep up the good work, my friend. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I posted one of them in the copper tags thread, I'll try my hand with brass and solder on my days off work... (Mon and Tue this week) Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
