Sorry to bore some of you with this but I think it's a cool story that people outside of England won't of heard about, oh, and it's Defender related so close to my heart
The two millionth Series Land Rover and Defender has been produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s manufacturing facility in Solihull, UK. To mark this historic production milestone, Land Rover has produced a very special bespoke Defender 90 Station Wagon.
Built by famous guests, including Land Rover ambassadors Bear Grylls and Monty Halls, the vehicle has a bespoke design and many unique features. This one-off vehicle was designed to be a fitting tribute to almost seven decades of Land Rover production.
Defender 2,000,000 will be sold by auction in December at Bonhams, UK, giving the buyer an opportunity to own a unique piece of Land Rover’s history. Proceeds from the sale will be going to Land Rover’s humanitarian partners, The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
During May 2015, lifelong Defender fans joined the Solihull production line to help build this one-of-a-kind vehicle. Distinctive finishing touches include a map of Red Wharf Bay, where the design of the original Land Rover was drawn in the sand, etched into the exterior and a unique Defender 2,000,000 badge. Inside the vehicle, the leather and cloth seats feature the Red Wharf Bay graphic and the ‘no. 2,000,000’ logos have been stitched into the headrests.
Everyone who helped build the vehicle signed a bespoke aluminium plaque which is fitted to the driver’s seat plinth. In a reference to the first ever pre-production Land Rover, which had the registration HUE 166, the Defender 2,000,000 has front and back registration plates S90 HUE
The Defender was sold at auction on the 16th December 2015 and fetched an astonishing £400,000 to an overseas buyer.
Good news for the charities the funds are going to for sure!!
My guess is that the buyer is probably from the Middle East.
So since Bear Grylls had a hand in it they will they throw in a Gerber knife? Or paint it to resemble a Crappy Bear Grylls knife?
Haha, not sure, can't see any Orange on it though and I'm pretty sure if the buyer was capable of giving £400,000 for it then they will probably have a bit more expensive taste than BG or Gerber
Bear Grylls signed it, maybe Coney bought it.
Just as long as the foreign buyer isn't going to try and import it into the US. I see they made it left hand drive which is interesting given where it was likely to go?
Don't think it will be going to the US, even if it could. I imagine it will be parked in a Saudi Arabian garage somewhere, it is a right hand drive though........made for the Brits
Yeah meant right hand, i.e. left hand side of the road. Confuses me
Don't think LR would of dared to make it LHD with the history behind it!! I bet the sale price was a surprise for them as well.
Happy belated new year Gwac!
He's installing a Flux Capacitor on the Landy.... he'll high five the whole forum at midnight by the time he's done...
will he be able to get enough gigawats out of the motor?
Many thanks Nekolf, Happy New Year to you too, glad the house move went smoothly!
Installing it ain't a problem..............hitting 88mph is
For £400,000 they could've at least made it as good as yours.
They could of saved themselves thousands and bought mine..............I would of even screwed a 2,000,000th badge on for them
As a bonus, I can confirm Bear Grylls has been no where near mine
I still love this shot..
