    Hi all!

I am new here, as you may have noticed :green:

I live, as said, in The Neatherlands, am 18 years old and stumbled upon this evil forum  woahh! NICE! :smitten:

My English can be a lot better, and that's the only reason I am gonna post here, Every Day Carry doesn't interest me :lolhammer:

Well, I am member of some forums in my own language, mostly about knives, and one thing I learnt there, is that everybody likes pictures, of course including myself! So why wouldn't I post a picture of my own EDC?

    here you go!

    A Fenix P3D and a E01 as backup.
A Leatherman Wave and a Victorinox Soldier (and sometimes, like now, a Spyderco Salt 1 Mod, or a Endura 4 Half Serrated)
A BIC lighter (but off course, I don't smoke!)
    A mobile Phone
    A wallet
And last but not least, 3 meter (about 10 foot) 550 Paracord!

just 854 grams! Do you think I am a minimalist?

My interest are knifemaking, knives, flashlight, general steel construction and metallurgy, forging, cycling, music..... and all the things I've forgotten!

well, I hope you will like my first post here, and won't be angry if I make any Typo's! if so, tell me, so I can learn of it!

By the way, I really hate the 'emty handed' under my username... I have to post!!!!

    Thanks for looking!

Welcome to EDCF, it's really a great place to learn a lot.

BTW, I've been a regular listener to the English service of
Radio Nederlands...but they're discontinuing broadcasts to
    North America!

My knowledge of the station goes back all the way to
"The Happy Station" and Eddie Startz back in the 50s or 60s.

The mainstream media here in the U.S. is very bland and sanitized.
Radio Netherlands was a welcomed relief.

At least we had it for all those years.

On the other hand, I never heard them discuss EDC!

    ;D

    Welkom inderdaad.

3 Nederlanders ;D... er zijn er nog een paar meer.

550 heb ik van Supply Captain, omgerekend betaal je even veel als dun statisch klimtouw bij de Bever... but it's so much nicer.

That's great. I'm an editor/writer who went to J-school in the late 1970s.

Radio Netherlands is tops in investigating human rights stories.

Good luck with your journalism studies.

I hope I can answer this one a bit. The main difference I've noticed is the lack of "hunting", "military", "gun-carry" and "potential terrorist strikes" here... at least in the eastern part of the country we hardly have true urban areas. For me, this expresses in among other things the type of knife I edc (a SAK)... apart from my dad I know of no-one (literally) who EDC's a knife as tool (I don't count street punks) let alone a flashlight or first aid...
Allot of "sheep" here.. even a SAK is cause for a slight panic at times. (I work in Health care with elderly..)
Also, the patriotism isn't here, no flags, proud to be Dutch or wanting only Dutch-made items... (you US guys have all the nice EDC things, I keep ordering online )

It's highly unusual to be prepared over here. In to such extent that the government recently started a campaign to get people to have at least some basic stuff at home in case things go wrong. (http://denkvooruit.nl/ "think ahead") Dutch site....

Main contents of the pack is advised to be:
    Radio on batteries
    Flashlight
    first aid
    matches
    candles
    rescue blanket
    tools
    whistle

Allot of sheep here..... thinking the government is there to help them at all times. A simple knife as tool is very rare indeed

    Thanks for your insights.

Here in the U.S. after 9/11 more people have been turning their minds to
Preparedness and even Survivalist issues. The NY Times a while back had
    an article on survival-type books.

Two good ones are: When Technology Fails, by Matthew Stein (Chelsea
Green Publishing Co., White River Junction, VT) and When All Hell Breaks Loose
by Cody Lundin (Gibbs Smith, Publisher).

I bought both but have only skimmed them so far.

After the government's abysmal response to Katrina, folks started to
realize the government may not be there to help in an emergency.

I'm a city guy and so am not too self-sufficient. But I want to learn.

I have been looking to buy an Extrema Ratio - R.E.S for a while. Some of the knives I look for are hard to find in the USA.

Do you have some stores over their that you can recommend

Which knives are you looking for?

Oh, and about the 'edc-ness' in NL.

I live near our capital Amsterdam. It's true that you don't see a lot of people with general edc items, such as knives. However, most of the people in Amsterdam use bikes. The cops give a lot of tickets when you don't use a bike-light when it's dark, so most of the population in Amsterdam has a clip-on bikelight in their bags. It's better than nothing...

Also, I think it's not that necessary as in the USA: it's a relative small country with cellphone coverage on most places. For example: you can get pretty much everywhere in the country to the hospital within 20 minutes. And most people have a cellphone so that's a good thing :)

Wow, thanks for all your replies!

goh, leuk dat er hier wat hollanders te vinden zijn, ik kom de gelederen dan maar versterken he mannen? :highfive:

well, edc and preparedness on the otherside of the ocean? :help:

when I tell or show people I EDC knives, I hear: Are you afraid for other people?
when I tell or show people my flashlights, I hear: Are you afraid of the dark?
when I tell people I EDC Paracord, they think I am into BDSM....

when I say everything comes in handy, day after day, they just say: oh, I have my cell phone.... :(

    so far EDC in general.

But, because of this environment, the people who EDC, are hardcore. we have an Preparedness, Bushcraft and Survival forum, called www.:censored:.nl, and a knife forum, called www.messenforum.nl, where knives, flashlights and multitools are discussed. also, the bigger and older forum from Belgium is a big one, in dutch. www.weapons.be there, we discuss everything about guns (only site), hunting, knives, forging, and something about flashlights, survival, bushcraft.... We had a group buy of Paracord, yes, Supply captain. we ordered about 3 kilometres! ;D so we have some fora, but nothing as big as the US forums, and you have the coolest gadjets!

A am from a Small township in a, euhm, farmy part of the country? :-X you know what I mean!

About the Extrema Ratio, yes, you can email Knives and Tools, a very good internetshop, very good service! the site is dutch, but you can email them by clicking on ''contact'' at the left. http://www.knivesandtools.com/nl/ct/knives-otherbrands.htm they sell some Extrema Ratio stuff and can order a RES, and send them to you. then prices are in €, so you will have to pay some more, because of the low $.

also, 2sharp is an option, they have a RES in stock. see 2sharp website

if you need some help with the language, tell me.

Again, Thanks for your replies! :)
