It's time people learn one very important fact of life: 7eleven never closes. I once decided I wanted a pizza during a blizzard so I bundled up and trudged the few blocks through the foot and a half of snow to get a frozen one from 7eleven. And a pint of Ben & Jerry's, because bite me that's why.

Forget the bread and milk. I like to make sure that there is a knee to rub on during a storm. ;)

Those are kind of vile. But this does remind me that I need to go grocery shopping. Not because of the storm, just because it's that time. I'll go to the store tomorrow after work, just like everyone else, but I also won't be buying bread, milk, or eggs. Some fruit, and maybe some chicken. And it'll be late, so probably one of their sandwiches or wraps for dinner.

Actually, T. H., I am a thoughtful and responsible adult and I'm fine: plenty of food supplies, a backup generator, a wood fireplace (and a gas one), etc. I was just kidding about the French toast (but, yes, I already had eggs, bread, and milk ... plus butter and syrup. Hey, maybe I WILL make French Toast tomorrow morning!) LOL

I worked in corner shop years ago. Not only did we run out of bread in milk by about midday (which never happened normally) but by 5 we'd run out of YEAST. We didn't even get two inches the following day.

Well, you know I wasn't talking about you, right? I know you're super squared away. If the world was populated by C6A clones, this would all be moot and academic.
For real? People are so desperate for bread that they will make it themselves?

The world never ceases to amaze me.

We're actually out of milk. I need to get on that.

As far as food to survive on...we're good.

During the last storm (when Atlanta was shut down for days), I ate a lot of peanut butter...but the most annoying thing was that my 100/50 comcast connection degraded to slower than 56k down.
Guilty. Honestly, they're for my wife, who sometimes eats like a college freshman for some reason. I don't get it.
Waffle house too. When we got the edges of Katrina while I was in college, lots of the roads were basically rivers, some with downed trees or power lines. My girlfriend's parents decided she should just stay the weekend because it was safer, and we decided we wanted waffle house...being the responsible "adults" we were.

After trying and failing 3 different wahos (due to aforementioned rivers and obstructions), we hit the jackpot on the 4th and found one that was open but had no power.

So, we had a candlelit dinner of bacon and pancakes....at waffle house...because the waffle irons were out of commission but the griddle was fine.

Also, I have a lot of wool, a Subaru, and a cyclocross bike. I feel like I'm okay even if I have to go out in the snow.

I kid you not. There was also one guy who bought a tin of rice pudding to harvest the milk from it for a cup of tea. I saw alsorts in that job!

So, apparently we weren't out of milk. It was hiding behind the beer. Still got a week on the date, even.

But we're definitely out of eggs and almost out of beer.

i honestly never understood why people would rush out and buy milk. that would be one of the last things on my "list" if it came to an emergency.

This may not be the correct weather season, but this post-Katrina photo always struck me as indicative of people who REALLY had their priorities straight:

Not to make fun of their misfortune, but sometimes things really do just go better with ... beer!

You probably have tunes of good stories. And, by "good" I mean entertaining and shocking.
Now, I clearly consume too many calories, so I may not be the best judge regarding this, but while the beer angle is funny, what catches my eye first is that these people are sort of malnourished which makes the inventory of what they saved all the more disturbing.

If the east coast storm is anything near to what we got hit with last month here in New Mexico...be prepared...we got 24 inches of snow in just two hours! This was absolutely insane for us...way beyond anything we've been hit with for 100 years. Personally I believe storm strengths are increasing at bizarre rates? Be careful you guys in it's path....
