Kelty MAP 3500 is my daily carry in that size range. It has been discontinued, however. :(

Secondary market would be the only source.

    https://www.firsttactical.com/products/tactix-1-day-plus-backpack

I have been living out of mine for a few months now since my BSMT flooded and have been in and out of more than 30 different Hotels and peoples spare rooms with it all I can say is WOW!

I have not used the Rush 24 or GR2 since starting to carry this one.

Not perfect maybe but so close for me that it has become my go to for sure.

I have even stopped looking at bags.......almost.

The bigger one also looks good.

Maybe check out the Vertx Gamut Plus

I recently ordered a Vertx Gamut because of all the great comments I’ve heard about it for EDC. My understanding is the Plus has all the same features just 35L capacity instead of 28L.

    Rush 24 all day.
Ive got lots of bags by far more than enough but if im in doubt what to take or think there is an uncertainty its the Rush 24 everytime, furthermore every time I go back to my Rush 24 I get a buzz and fall back in love .

Most bags are weighed against the pros and cons of the R24 ,If I had to gather a few things and go thru hell fire I know this is the bag I would take.

Mines old now and was the first in the UK I had to get Hennie to import under special request, its been covered im Ash,mud, grease, dirt and still looks new I would be able to take it to work and it still looka great .

I have dragged it, thrown it, over stuffed like a total idiot and never had one failure point on stitching ,buckle ,zip ,man ive really yanked on those zips like starting a mower.

Sure folks have had minor niggles, but for the volume sold I think the reports of issues are super minimal ,its old faithful ,its bombproof ,if my son needed to depend upon a bag the R24 would be my advice, its the swiss army knife ,its the K bar of bags

I used to feel this way myself but then discovered 1st Tactical.

The guy responsible for the design of the Rush 24 left 5.11 to start this company and in a lot of ways the Tactix pack that I am in love with is his evolution of the Rush 24!

It seems clear when handling the pack that this is the case too. Most things about the Rush 24 are made better in the Tactix to me while a few things are not quite as nicely evolved but the lineage is unmistakable either way.

So I am not getting rid of my 24,and I have 2 of them but I am living out of the Tactix right now and it is sure worth consideration if looking at this size pack.

Do you feel the 1st Tactical bags are better than 5.11? Or about the same? Are the bottoms "double ply" instead of one sheet of fabric like the 5.11s?

The answer about the bottom is sort of Both.

There is one layer and then a Zipper and then another layer.
So there is a zippered pocket in the bottom.
I stuck a piece of blue Walmart sleeping pad foam there in the pocket which heavily reinforces the bottom and makes the pack profile stay the same there too whether empty or full.
I think the idea is to be able to put a Tarp there maybe?

Anyway there are little touches like that all throughout the bag and most of them would really enhance the R24 too had they been put in it.
My biggest is the front CCW pocket that is sort of like the Moab10 secret pocket but this one does have a zipper on the top.
This was such an odd and glaring omission from the whole Rush series vs the Moab that I will never really understand how it was made that way?

So The Tactix does have that pocket and I have been sliding my 11" Macbook into it and it is perfect for this!
The rearmost pocket likewise is more thoughtfully designed to me and can hold quite a bit too although the contoured back plate would interfere with some computers back there too. Even so the pocket is a lot more useful for me than in the R24 and of course it also unzips on the bottom to make a pass through for a long item which is genius to me.

The only thing I miss from the R24 is the side pockets where I easily stick water bottles.
The front pockets on the Tactix are just not that handy for me though I am learning what I can and can not put in them as I use the bag more.

So far I have a drop pouch on the bag for water bottles and it is working OK but I love the R24 side pockets truly.

Overall I think the 2 brands are similar in construction but the 5.11 seem a little heavier in the end and maybe heavy duty too but it is not a Night & Day difference either.

Like I said I still have 2 R24 and several other 5.11 bags and no intention of cutting them lose but the 1st Tactical is a real option for me now too and they often go on sale for 50% off which is when I have bought mine!

Hopefully Black Friday will be one of those times this year.
