I read a posting just yesterday that it's apparently unlawful to possess a "concealed" handcuff key in Florida. On a key ring or other common area, it's apparently fine. The state statute was cited. I've started carrying a TIHK everywhere. Apparently, this is a no no for future Disney excursions...unless of course I keep it concealed. ;)

As our latest Disney adventure draws to a close, I thought I'd update y'all on the security we encountered. My EDC for the trip has been my wallet, Space pen (more on that in a minute), a Nitecore Thumb and a SAK Rambler.

Disney Cruise Lines: As you enter the terminal, your bag is checked and x-ray'd and you'll walk through a metal detector. The bag check looked in all compartments and felt the outside of the bag. I had placed the Rambler in the small, pouch I carry my charging cords and it went both with no issues. Same thing for Castaway Cay. We didn't make it to Nassau as our ship, along with every other ship in the vicinity was clawed to assist in the search for a person overboard from another cruise ship (later identified as Carnival). Nice day at sea, but somewhere along the line I lost my pen! This will make 3 I've had and lost...I'm beginning to think I'm not supposed to have one! One big thing I learned: bring your own cup! Lots of folks were using their Yetis, Rtics or other insulated tumblers. The all day (free) soda/coffee station was all the way aft, so it saved some steps.

At WDW security varied between parks and days (we were in the parks over seven days) and in my pack I carried a windbreaker, first aid kit (within LOTS of Tylenol!), sunscreen, umbrella, portable charger, cords, and a water bottle

Magic Kingdom - visual bag check, random metal detector. Heavy uniformed presence in front and in the park in the morning, but by afternoon the uniforms inside were mostly gone. Two WDW K9's working the front.
EPCOT - bag check, saw them opening bigger pouches found inside packs and strollers, random metal detector check. Noted almost no uniforms inside the park, and those I saw seemed to be going somewhere. One K9.
Animal Kingdom - every bag checked, everyone gets a metal detector. I never saw anyone get wanded, but they were ready. Not as many uniforms around and no K9s seen.
Hollywood Studios - lots of uniforms out front, standard bag check and random metal detector. No uniforms seen inside.

All in all I felt safe once inside the parks. Outside there are too many variables, but there were a lot of Orange Co. Sheriffs deputies about everywhere, so they had that covered. We'll see if any changes occur when we come back in a month.

Edit: When we entered through the ticketing center this morning very bag was checked and everyone went through the metal detector.

Thanks for the great security update. Sorry to hear about your pen. Also good on the advice to bring a cup to DCL for drinks. We hadn't run across that in our cruise readings.

Went to Disneyland and California Adventure, by way to Downtown Disney, over this past weekend. Bags are searched, contents of pockets are not, but they go in a tray as you walk through a metal detector. SAK Classic went through in my wallet.

Otherwise, I used a wide brimmed hat from Columbia (the brand, not the country) constantly. Little bandaids came in handy when my daughter skinned her knee, and i used my bandanna for it's actual intended purpose when I couldn't find napkins or tissues.

Any updates on pool hopping in Disney? SIL read that they are trying to prohibit people from using pools in resorts there are not staying in.????

Just so I'm clear, you're stating that one cannot swim at pools other than the pool of the resort in which you are staying?

I've skipped these threads for years but guess what? That's right, going to Disney baby!!!!

Thanks for all the info!! It's time and the boys turned 11. They are so happy.

Quick question?? Many members of the family do not speak English and I do not want to interpret all the time.

    Is there multilingual staff?

fyi. You might get better responses to your question if you indicate which language(s) would suit...

    OK. FYI.

Disney is a major international destination. Who knows how many languages are represented there on a given day.

Just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with tours, or how they handle gift shops, restaurants, maps, etc.

Well, but of course. I took your post though as primarily interested in your family so I figured you might be able to be more specific!

I thought it might be interesting to add to the thread instead of what back pack to take, over and over

    I'll Google it.

All Disney employees have a name tag that features not only their name but also where they're from, i.e. Bozeman, MT or Auckland, NZ. The name tag also lists what languages they speak. I've never seen more than three listed.

There are many international employees there.

At EPCOT, to work in one of the many countries represented one must be from that country so they recruit college interns from say Japan, Morocco, Canada, etc.

Techie question. I am trying to get a couple more movies downloaded onto our Samsung tablet for my daughter to watch on the drive to Disney. We have disney movies anywhere app and also vudu app. But when I try to download movie it wants to store in tablet memory with no option for sd card. Anyone conquer this?

Not really sure as I'm on an iPad, but is there an option in the app setting to choose what storage is used. If that doesn't work, try device memory settings.

Let me know how. I've got what I think is a 64 Gb expansion card in my Samsung tablet I'd like to save some shows on for the youngster. ...and perhaps myself. I've developed a fixation with last summer's The Accountant.

I had to go into settings of each app (vudu, disney movies) and change storage destination.
Also, i needed to upgrade to a faster sd card. Didn't initially work with one i had. Bought a new card capable of faster speed and it is working. I also downloaded in SD instead of HD to save space

Check your tablet as you may be limited in size of sd card. Mine has 16g internal and 32g max sd i believe. I would also recommend a class 10 sd card to handle the speed. Memory is getting so cheap. I just paid less than 20 for 32g

Thanks to all for input. Up early getting ready to hit the road on our trip.
