Thanks agian everyone, even those getting a little carried away,

I'd love a brass atwood whistle but the only price i saw one for was over $100 and i can't justify that, not at the moment anyway.
I'll make my own as it's always good practice and apart from time spent it's only a couple of quids worth of stock used.

Which pieces would be worth making a small run of?

I couldn't sell any of the ferro rod holders as the scraper design is patented,

Sunshine products already make a decent brass cash tube and i hate having to cut threads on the lathe,

The pen design was something i was planning on making several of anyway, some with a bit of texture close to the tip for added grip,

The measuring rod is probably the easiest to make and is different enough from the TEC centipede with finer divisions,

The tritium holder is also relatively easy to make either with the pattern shown on the brass model or the more regular pattern of my earlier titanium model (i prefer the patterning on the top of this one)

Get some leather and you've got quite the steampunk setup!

I do like certain steampunk themes, not too sure where leather could be used but it would give a good contrast.

The lathe i use is a Myford long bed Super 7 with 3 phase motor, control unit and quick change tool post

How did you machine out the slot for the bolt on the pen?

You could buy (or make) an awesome leather pouch for the keychain...

Well, call that a start ;D Your points are well made. You could possibly add the brass clip. I think the TEC Accessories P-7 Suspension Clip is a fine piece, so are the Munroe danglers if you're lucky enough to get one, but as they say, variety is the spice of life.

So you made the Aurora fire starter yourself? It seems smaller than the original. Are you selling them?

Yep made it myself, can't sell it though as it's a patented design.

These pictures don't show very clearly the relative sizes of these items:
The Aurora is 16mm in diameter and 93mm long,
My one is 12mm in diameter and 83mm long,
The Exotac is 9.7mm in diameter and 86mm long.

The Aurora is certainly over engineered but i suppose thats what you would want in a 'job critical' tool.

I get all of my materials including the brass off ebay as it's the only place that sells stock in small quantities, in the UK anyway.

The clip is also an idea but its so easy to make i think everyone should do their own.

i little leather cover is a good idea as it would protect the brass from other metal items in the pocket but first i've got to make everything that will go on the keychain to ensure correct fitting.

As per request a comparison picture

    From top to bottom:
    Fisher space pen refill,
Lamy M22 (used in the pen)
Standard mini refill, sometimes called a D1
Fisher refill for the valiant pen
    Cross matrix refill

I'll post some proper comparison pictures soon but this is the only one i have at the moment.

I gotta hand it to you, Tofty - when you pick a theme, you stick with it!
