Thank you! Yes, I did it for a couple of knives. For stonewashing I just use some small river rocks in a Tupperware box. But by itself it's not so effective. I think that works better with specialized medium and in a machine over night. Acid-stonewash on the other hand works great for me. The acid creates a dark background that scratches rather easily, you get a nice stonewash in the Tupperware after 5-10 min. Maybe you have seen my two Pingos, the gray one has a normal and very subtle stonewash, the blue one acid-stonewash.

Which Kind of acid do you use for the acid-stonewash?

In the beginning I used hydrochloric acid (I forgot the concentration, I found the instructions somewhere on Google) but it's nasty stuff to work with so I switched to ferric chloride, equivalent to 50% of the usual PCB etchant solution. 10 min was already enough. Three things are important: (1) clean the knife before with alcohol and avoid finger prints on the blade. (2) cover the pivot area and other sensitive surfaces with nail polish. (3) neutralize the acid (eg baking soda) and clean the blade well afterwards. It will be quite dark at first and get lighter when you clean it. I also soaked the blades in WD40 overnight.

Thanks a lot! The thing I like best about brass and copper gear is how it keeps looking better and better when you carry it!

    Thank you!

The copper dog tag with the kois? That is a Steel Flame dog tag. They make these in batches, always different motifs and always just a few. There are some places where you can find used ones, like the USN forum or the Bushido Exchange group on Facebook.
