Would the state be TN? Nope just saw, it was PA
Smokey Mountain Knife Works is about an hour away from me. I love that place.
It's about 2 hours from me. I don't get up there very often. I do enough damage to my bank account as it is.
This is where me and farchlyd are going after the breakfast buffet friday
You guys are lucky! I'd kill to have a knife shop like that in the bay area!
how the hell'd you know that?
Wish we had a good knife shop in this town. It's probably best for my wallet that we don't
I love finding diamonds in the ruff like that. A while back me and one of my friends checked out this place that was reputed to have very nice cutlery. I was expecting the usual buck, gerber and sog. When we walked in the door I almost keeled over. the shelves of the knife case were loaded with benchmades, spydercos, microtechs and I'm pretty sure I was a couple ZTs. the only downside was that every knife in there was selling for full MSRP! I didn't buy anything, but I did get alot of recon done.
I am glad I have not found something like that here.
Because I have been there twice
oh nice. are you local?
Just had this experience in my town as well. Lived here seven years and found a local cutlery shop that had a booth at the quarterly Gun/Knife show in town this past weekend. Very knowledgeable owner with a great selection (Spyderco, All KAI brands, Benchmade, Chris Reeve, Strider, TOPS, ESEE, Cold Steel, Consignments of out of production and hard to find knives, etc.), and best of all, prices WELL below MAAP. His Prices are better than I've found anywhere online except *some* ebay stores, and I'd much rather give my money to a local Family business. Anyone in Central VA send me a PM for more info...
I wish there was something like that near me.
I've got a local knife store that, with any luck, wont be seeing any more of my money...
First couple trips in I talked to an employee, good guy. Talked knives and flashlights and I ended up buying a Kershaw Mini Mojito that I still love.
Now any time I've been in I always run in to the owner.
When asked about Spyderco: Cheap knives. Bad customer service. Knives always needing service and it's too much of a hassle
When asked about Mini Grips: Cheap knife, no good.
When asked about Cryo: Cheap knife, we only carry quality knives
In general when asked about popular, well reviewed knives, if it's not in his store it's actually junk (and you dont know anything about knives if you're asking for it...)
This place carries SOG, Buck, Benchmade, Kershaw, a few Fallkniven, lots of Henckles and probably a couple more I cant remember. Those are all on one wall of the shoebox shaped store, the other half of the store is all swords and crap.
Shur that sucks, but you will get those types of people anywhere. Know it alls. Spyderco sucks? I woulda left with that mindless remark
New Hope would be a nice ride. Last time i was there it seemed dog friendly... wife would never suspect if I mentioned a trip to "socialize" the puppy... hmmmmmm...
the town is dog friendly, but as of this past summer, the county commissioners office has banned dogs from being allowed at any restaurant with outdoor seating, sans one or two places that are still allowed to have dogs for some reason.
BladeHQ's storefront is about 25 minutes from me. And by the Cabelas too. That's a dangerous area for the wallet.
Good, haven't been up there in a while. Good for a nice weekend walkabout. I used to go through there to get to Stover State Park to do some rappelling off the high rocks.
