So I need some help picking out my first watch, I need it to fit a few basic rules
    - Around $50 or less
    - Simple to operate
    - basic display and tells date as well
    - fairly small (I have small wrists)
    - NOT digital
    - last, it has to have some sort of glow in the dark display
Any other offers are highly appreciated

I would look at timex watches with Indiglo, many styles.

I second timex. Should be readily available in the U.S. You might also have a look at army surplus stores.

TImex is also where I'd go first. If I didn't find something there I'd got to jomashop and sort seikos by price. Seiko has a line "Seiko 5" that is basically designed for exactly your criteria and has some great looking stuff.

You might also fins something from Citizen, though they tend to start around $75 and I generally find the lower $ seikos to be a better value than the lower $ citizens.

A bit above your budget, but I'd look at a Seiko "5" series automatic, something like the SNK805, SNK807, or SNK809. Just a bit over your budget, smaller than many divers, and not only Analog, but AUTOMATIC. Self-winding, doesn't need batteries. Simple, rugged, reliable.

Why not a Vostok Amphibia? Really simple and tough automatic watch, good price and all, and it's not something you'll find on anybody's wrist today

True! Although, 2 things to consider here: the price for Amphibia is a bit higher than 50, but not by much, and the luminous material, which calls for decent exposure to light to "charge". Otherwise - all stainless steel, automatic, water resistant to 200m piece of Soviet watchmaking history.

I'm going to add another vote for Timex, if you are looking for something specific just go to their website and it will give you a check list that will show all watches that fit a certain criteria, for instance $0-$49 with date. I've had a couple timex watches over the years and they are great watches especially for a first watch
