I love my Tactix because I do like a lot of options, so the laser cut molle serves me well. Probably the best thing is to get both packs in your hands and see which you like best. The second best option is looking over at theequipped.com where he did a two part side by side, inside out, comparison of both packs.

I'm interested in buying the Tactix Half-Day Pack. But I was wondering I some had experience carrying a 15.4 inch laptop (Lenovo T550) in the rear compartment? Unfortunately there is no place in my country (NL) where I can try the bag.

This is the response I got from customer service about the T550 laptop.

If the bag is like mine and has the frame sheet back there in its own sleeve then the back of the pack is not flat at all and instead is curved pretty severely by the frame sheet.
I have feared that this could snap a computer in half if I carried one there and wore the bag then as intended?
YMMV but it is something else to ask them maybe if you can not try the bag before buying one?

Just received the bag today. And I can confirm the laptop fits fine. Size wise it just fits, but it slides in with no problem. I am not expecting any problems due to the reinforced back piece.

I wasn't expecting them either which is what made it a problem!

I ordered me a new 1-Day Plus pack, so when it gets in I’ll update with pics of my current setup of my 0.5 pack, since it’s changed a little since the last pics I took and I’ll set it next to my incoming 1-Day Plus as well as my Rush 24 and/or 12. I’ve noticed a serious lack of side by side pics of the FT bags next to each other and next to 5.11 Rush’s. Maybe it’ll help people who are shopping.

Since I don't do any hiking or long journeys with any of my bags (they are all for home to office carry or home to hotel, so the most I go with one on my back is a 100 yards) I may take out the panel of either my 0.5 Day Pack or my incoming 1 Day plus, use it as a rough guide, and cut a piece of flat plastic to replace it and see if it changes anything drastically. I'm thinking it would actually increase the space of the rear "drop thru" compartment and make it better for any laptop/tablet carry, although I currently use my rear hang thru pocket for concealed carry using a RIP-M with a holster attached. I found this a better use and I tuck my iPad into the zippered CCW pocket along with a 12"x8" sheet of .080 thick kydex for protection.

I honestly wished they'd do a few small things, offer a completely flat sheet of plastic for sale to replace the curved frame sheet as an option, maybe for like $8-$12. Put some loop material in the hang thru pocket, and put some loop in the upper storage pocket.

So it sounds like you understand now what I mean?
The other thing I tried which was a huge mistake was to remove the frame altogether for a long trip that I took so that I could carry the computer back there without it fighting that frame thing.
When you do this the entire suspension does not really work at all anymore as its backbone is gone and the pack becomes almost impossible to carry at all!
I had to carry it this way for a few weeks then and will never do that again!

So I agree it needs to have an option of a simple straight frame for carrying a larger computer if needed and the standard frame for hiking with no computer back there before I would suggest anyone getting one for a computer too large for the front slip pocket where I now just slide a smaller machine in.
Seems they did not really think it through enough back there?

FYI, if any of you guys need a huge area of loop plus stiffening in the hang thru pocket of your .05 Day Tactix pack, I've discovered the Recycled Firefighter 24HR Rigid Loop Panel fits the pocket like a glove, seriously it's almost like it was made for the pack specifically. If you use this panel, the entire rear wall of your Hang Thru pocket can be loop.

Also, for molle and stiffening, the Grey Man Tactical 10.75"x17" fits the Hang Thru pocket of the .05 Day Tactix almost as perfectly as the RFF Panel. It also fits well in the rear pocket of the 1-Day Plus. I don't have one to test, but I don't see why the Rip-M 10.75"x19" wouldn't fit perfectly in the rear of the 1-Day Plus Pack.

Just accessory info for you guys. I've got most of the paracord on my new 1-Day Plus and it is almost setup, so I'll try to have more pics posted soon of it. My hands are killing me though, working with the paracord with the single reflective tracer can really skin your fingers if you don't wear gloves.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I've also cut-out a piece of flat plastic for the rear of the 1-Day Plus and it does open up the rear Hang Thru pocket quite a bit. However, I highly recommend that you use a very very stiff plastic if you do this mod, I used somewhat flimsy plastic from a storage container lid and it works, but it is noticeably less sturdy than the factory piece which has the nifty aluminium bar for structure. However, I've off-set the flimsiness of my homemade insert with the RIP-M panel in the rear Hang Thru. I could conceivably go without the homemade panel and just the RIP-M, but I do like having the homemade panel in there to keep the structure and the fabric from drooping. I'll also post some pics of this little mod later.

I'm more of a briefcase guy than a backpack guy these days.....this is a great briefcase and an outstanding value compared to many other bags. I have the equally-great 5.11 briefcase also, which I am going to use as an air travel carry-on bag, but I love both briefcases. The resemblance of the two products is obvious, but the 1st Tactical bag is slightly lighter in weight, and there are other differences.

I added handle wraps to the 1st Tactical briefcase, which does not have the hard top-handle reinforcements found on the 5.11 bag. The 1st Tactical product has more built-in pocket organization in the main compartment than does the 5.11 product, and has a smooth fabric on the inside instead of the flocked fabric and MOLLE webbing on the inside of the 5.11 briefcase's main compartment. The 1st Tactical briefcase also lacks the built-in rain cover that the 5.11 bag has - but the water resistance of the 1st Tactical product is quite good and plenty sufficient for me. The 1st Tactical bag has a nice flocked eyeglass pocket on the top flap, and also comes with the key keeper you see in the photo.

I can't believe that I have not posted pics yet of the Messenger Bag from HELL!
I have been carrying this beast for over a year now and it is nothing short of amazing as are all of the 1st Tactical bags from what I can tell.
This may be the biggest Messenger that I have ever had and the only real issue I have with it is that I can not carry it if I fill it up!
    Really!
I was on the road all of the last week or so and I carried so much in it that I had to use a small wheeled dolly to carry it into the Hotel every day.
I actually carried my loaded Tom Bihn Pilot inside it along with all of my other normal stuff.

Anyway O am afraid the pics can not do it justice,it is just a terrific bag.

Two of mine, the Specialist 0.5 day pack and the Summit Side. Also have an Ascend in tan and a Summit in black. I've used both at various times as work bags, hence the same patch. [IMG][IMG]

Been rocking this pack since September of last year. The first 9 pictures are from when i first got it. Only change is the patches I've put on. The last picture is the current patch. Love the options this pack has to offer. Plan to pick up a 1 day plus soon. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
