It’s that time of year where I repack my gear for winter temps. Pulled out my fixed blade from my go bag in the truck and decided to re-sharpen my fire making skills. You never know when you may need to make shelter and stay warm. Anyone game to try with pics?

Trying birds nest with wood shavings and magnesium shavings.

    First. What blade is that?
And second. I'll do you one better.
    The one stick fire.
Will post tomorrow. Are you game?

Yo! It's a Schrade SCHF3N with the handle scales removed. They make a great bushcraft blade on the cheap that you can beat the H out of and have fun and I am not afraid of leaving in my ride. One stick fire?! You beat me on that amigo, I am not that good hehehe. I do like to do this challenge every fall, in fact hosting a happy hour with my buds Wednesday and we are all competing. I'll try and post a pic. I just do the classic bird's nest with lint/magnesium/shavings/any tinder I can get with a ferro rod.

Dry grass birds nest with petroleum jelly cotton ball and some magnesium chips. Sorry I left blade and tool out of pic.

Diesel and a propane torch. We limb to 6 foot to prevent ladder fuels. Many fires here. Smokey Bear approved.

It's almost impossible to source tender here (PNW) in winter. Pine sap and storm proof matches will get you going but finding enough fuel, building a wind barrier, and protecting the fire from the rain.... not good odds.[IMG][IMG]
