I'm in the process of trying to carry a notepad with me most of the day. I'm curious on the reasons that some carry a grid notebook compared to the plain? Thanks.

I always like grid paper as otherwise my writing slips down the page.

Also good for scale drawing and pencil games when travelling.

I can't speak for too many - but the grid is useful in

Archeology - using the grid as a measured distance system to accurately record where "A" is, in relation to "B" and "C"
General Science - after collecting certain data, to be able to correlate into a scatter plot

I usually use grid when available. Most of the time, I just use the horizontal lines as I would any lined paper, but in the event I need to do a technical drawing of some sort, the grid makes scaling a bit easier. If I'm printing my own paper or could choose anything, I prefer dot grid. Completely disappears in most photocopies and even less obtrusive than regular lines or grid.

I usually use Grid as much as I possibly can. I like the grid style.

I only do straightforward writing and find the grid distracting, so I usually use lined if it's available. Your needs will dictate what you like. The one advantage I can see with the grid is you can use a "landscape" orientation easier, but I've never needed that, in actual practice.

Grid is the way I go 90% of the time. Sometimes I use the plain paper Field notes, but only on occasion.

I usually use lined but I'm mostly just writing text. I have a couple small pads with grid and uses them for drawings I made.

I’d like to try dot grid, too. The only ones I know of are from Leuchtturm1917, but I’ve only seen them online. Are there others, too?

I recently started carrying a Moleskin reporter. The lines in it are fine but I think I'm going to go grid the next pad I get. Simply for the aesthetic.

Just started using Field Notes. Bought the mixed 3-pack. I like the grid, but wish the squares were bigger as they're only 3/8 inch wide while the lined version is 1/4 inch spacing. The dot grid is 5mm which is pretty close to 1/4 inch, but I haven't tried that yet.

I usually just draw .25" vertical lines on a few pages of the lined version.

Grid paper has been one of my favorite things since I discovered D&D as a kid.:skull:

But aside from mapping dungeons, it also comes in handy for making accurate diagrams or plotting out charts and whatnot. It's also nice because you can choose to use the lines to write vertically or horizontally. Sometimes that comes in handy.

Now that Doane is back open for business, I may be stocking up.
